AANG'S POV:

I watched as Liang wobbled into the room on her metal crutches, orange outlining the grips. She was hurt fifth-worst: my parents, Katara, me, then her. I smiled and flipped the page in the book, placing my finger in it and looking up. "Hey sis, what's up?" She saw the cover of the book and smirked. "Reading about me?" I smiled and put the book down on my lap, my finger saving the page.

"Sorry, I didn't read the back when I checked it-- Sokka didn't read the back when he checked it out and brought it to me." She smiled and wobbled over to sit down on a chair near me, leaning her crutches on the bed behind me. I raised my eyebrow, "why aren't you wearing your leg?" She shrugged, her high ponytail following. "Didn't feel like it- plus the stump's throbbing. How's Kat? Sokka said she woke up."

I shut my eyes and looked at her sleeping on the bed. "She's awake, alright." Liang smiled from her chair. "Well, that's amazing! Aren't you happy?" I shook my head, biting my tongue to stop the tears from falling. I placed my hand on the side table and looked down at the tile floor. Stop. She's alive. That's what matters.

"Is she ok? What happened?" I looked up through my tears, seeing her face instantly turn worried. "She lost her memory." Liang's hands flew to her mouth as her own eyes started watering. I shut my eyes and pat around the table, looking for my inhaler. Breathing was suddenly such a struggle. I heard shuffling.

I wiped my tears, stashed the inhaler in a wooden drawer, and put on a smile as I saw Katara yawn awake. Liang caught on and put on a smile, then quickly looked down at her stump. I widened my eyes and tried to lock eyes with her.

"Just tell her?" she asked, her eyes worried. I shut my eyes and nodded once before smiling and picking up my book, acting as if nothing had happened. Just as I was about to read the next few words, I heard her stumble awake. She turned to her side and saw me, a small pink blush rising on her cheeks.

She's the cutest thing ever.

Then she turned to Liang. And screamed. I winced and threw the book on the table, walking over and holding her down to her bed. "Shh," I whispered, rubbing her hair gently and calming her down. She whined and relaxed her arms into me. I shut my eyes and tried not to cry.

"Wh-who is that? Who is she?" she whimpered, her whole body trembling. I whispered, "shhh," and rubbed her arms again. "Calm down. Her name is Liang. She's your best friend and my older sister." Katara whimpered and looked down at her stump, causing Liang to wince.

"Yeah, it was a pretty bad accident," she whispered. I froze as Katara raised her eyebrow. "What accident?" I shut my eyes and bit my lip, holding her arms down and ready to calm her down. "You... you were knocked out in a bus crash." She widened her eyes.

"What? How many people were on the bus?" I shook my head and shut my eyes as she gently sat up. "Uh... a lot. I think... 13... 14? People." She shook her head, not believing a word I was saying. "Did anyone...." I bit the inside of my cheek and turned around, walking back to my chair and turning it around so my chest was pressed to the back and my legs were on either side.

I put my forehead on my hands, closing my eyes and trying not to cry. Gone. Mom. Dad. Gone. Pain. Pain. Pain. Pain. Pain....

"NO! GET OUT OF THE BUS!"

"TRISTAN!"

"PAMELA!"

"Aang, one day, you'll find an amazing girl who will love you for you."
