[Part 3/3]

The explosion rumbled through the entire room again, shaking everything in sight. Screams were heard all around, as some students were frozen in place, paralyzed in fear. Some kids ran out however. Katie frantically looked around, catching her eye on the teacher, who seemingly ran out of the class too. Great.

Katie ran to look at the window, which had partially shattered from the shakes and loud explosion from outside. The outside she had known was in horrible condition, hellish even. A green, toxic looking liquid seeped into cracks in the ground, and dissolved the ground under it, leaving many pools of this toxic waste in the environment around the school. Maybe that was where the rumbles were coming from, the slow dissolving of the ground keeping the school in place. Katie didn't want to get out of the school though. However, she had to act quick.

A big building in the distance of the school had seemingly blown up. Katie recalled what this building was, from when her parents, whom were scientists, told her. It seemed to be a power plant of sorts, connected to a laboratory of sorts. Katie received two buzzes from her phone as she was looking out the window. The notifications read as such.

Some of the other students in the class had left, leaving Katie and around three other students. The kids bullying her. Katie looked at them, before running out of the classroom into the hall. Some of the walls were cracked on the side, leaking some of the radiated waste into the class. Katie made her way to the stairwell. She noticed a girl making her way to the roof, in a rush.
Susan. Susan was making her way to the roof. Katie stopped in her tracks, running after Susan.

Katie made her way into the rooftop, catching her breath.
"SUSAN!! We shouldn't be here!! We have to g--"
The floor shook and rumbled, almost sweeping the two kids off their feet. Katie, taking some time to regain her balance, approached Susan, who was by the end of the railing of the roof.
"Oaksley...whoever did this to you must suffer.."

Katie tilted her head at this, before looking down at the environment. It was even more of a wasteland than earlier. The power plant in the distance had sunk into the ground more, the base of the building being dissolved by radiation. Any moment now, the building could crash down, causing even more destruction around it. You would think they'd place such a big powerplant further away from society. However, Oaksley was very prideful of their laboratory, which was connected to this powerplant, so they kept these two buildings close to the town, seemingly causing all this destruction.

People were sitting on top of their homes, on rooftops of the home they once raised their families in, their children in, and other buildings throughout the town. Katie could spot her home, which seemed not too far away from the rooftop. However, nobody seemed to be on top of their roof.

What if there was someone in their home? What if they died in the accident? No. No, they must have been evacuated already. After all, there's no way her loved ones and her pet dog could have gotten hurt. She wouldn't have let it happen, however, she was a child. There's nothing Katie could have really done.

"Wow.. this is horrible.. what do we do?"

"Is it safe if we go down?"

Katie would look at the two emergency alerts on her phone, shivering to herself. She'd show the alert to Susan. Susan's expression turned to anger.
