[Part One of Three]
The faint buzzing of a phone alarm was heard.
A child sat up from their bed , and turned off the alarm. Seconds later, their mother walked in, to greet them and help them get their uniform ready to wear.
"Katie , ready for your test today?"
The child nodded, and would set their bookbag on their bed. The bookbag was a light blue color, with a small star keychain on it. The head of a plush dinosaur poked out from the top of the bag.The child, named Katie, would put on her uniform, and would place the clothing hangers in the closet. The closet was rather cluttered, with old school notebooks and stuffed toys scattered around. In the middle of the closet, she had a row of hangers holding clothing, where she had put the empty hangers.
Katie would put on her shoes, and when trying to tie her shoes, would struggle. She'd tie them, and they'd come loose the moment she'd try to walk. She tried tying her shoes again for around three minutes, until her mother walked by and noticed her struggling.
"Katie, dear, need help?"
Katie would nod. The mom would approach, kneeling down to tie her shoes properly, before getting back up and giving Katie a kiss on the forehead and her lunchbox. Katie stuffed her lunchbox in her bag, and stood up.
Katie skipped over to the living room, beside her mom. Her mom handed her a small bowl of cereal, and Katie would sit down on a small, wooden table beside the hallway Katie had just walked through. The living room was small. An average sized TV sat around the middle of the wall, perched on a table rest, and there were two sofa's a distance away from it.
Katie would eat a majority of her cereal, before her mom would put on her coat, waiting for Katie by the door.
"Come on, sweetie, we have to get going. You don't want to get late to school now, do you?"
Katie would pick her bowl up, walking over to the moderately sized kitchen and placing the bowl in the sink. She'd speed over to her mom, with a smile on her face.
"I'm ready, mama!"
"Good, let's get going."The mom would lead Katie to the car, holding her hand. Katie would open the backseat door, sitting next to the window. The mom would buckle her seatbelt in, keeping it tight, but not too tight. The mom would lean close, and give Katie a kiss on the forehead.
The mom would walk to the front door, locking the door of the house using a silver, slightly rusted, key. She'd walk back to the car, sitting in the front seat, bucking her seatbelt in, and driving out of the driveway.
The car drive wasn't that long, however it felt like ages. Katie had her headphones plugged into the tiny phone she had been given by her mother, and was listen to some tunes. She focused on the window, looking outside into the forest nearby.
There were always people talking about that forest. They said it was filled with mystical lands and creatures people hadn't dared to see. However, it was told that it's dangerous to get deep into the forest. She always fantasized about it though. Far off lands, mushrooms and fairies, little friends she can hold along the way. Oh, how she wished she lived a life like that. She was always one to fantasize about the unnatural. She always told her parents about how she wished she could have little fairy friends, and meet people from all around the world. Her parents always told her it wasn't possible, but who was she to listen? After all, the forest was right there. Katie opened her bag, pulling out a small, blue, dinosaur plush, and held it in her hands.
The forest slowly disappeared from view, as their destination approached. They soon arrived to the school. The school looked dreary. Grey walls, that seemed as if they hadn't been painted in years, with uncut grass along the sides, and a closed off field with a playground for the younger students to play in. They were students walking into the school.
The car would come to a halt as they entered the school grounds, and Katie would unbuckle her seatbelt and open the door. She'd put her bookbag on her back, and would hop out of the car, waving her mom goodbye and running off into the prison-like school, a fresh smile painted on her face.
