I don't own Merlin.

The storm faded and with it the gold in Merlin's eyes. A sad smile appeared on his face, while looking at the bodies of the bandits, that were littering the ground around them.

"You are a sorcerer." Merlin closed his eyes with a painful expression and turned to his best friend. Arthur's face was blank and showed no emotion.

The warlock raised his hands in a begging motion. „Please Arthur, you have to understand. I always used it for you. Just for you."

"You lied to me. All these years. You betrayed me." Arthur strengthened the grip around Excalibur. His voice quivered slightly.

"I was born with it. I never had a choice. Please Arthur, now is not the time to argue. Camelot is in danger. Cendred's Army is nearby. We have to stop ..."

"Leave."

"What?" Merlin felt the tears in his eyes. He had thought about this moment a million times. Had imagined how Arthur would react to his magic. Sometimes he had accepted him. Sometimes he had screamed at him or tried to kill him. But in reality, Arthur masked his emotions and wasn't really reacting at all.

Emotions make you weak. A real King doesn't show them. No man is worth your tears.

Even today, years after Uther's death, Arthur still went back to the shitty advice Uther had indoctrinated into his brain in situations that made him feel insecure and vulnerable.

This hurt Merlin more than any blade that Arthur could have used against him, because he knew that he lost his friend's trust.

"Leave. If you ever come back to Camelot, I have no choice but to execute you."

"Arthur."

"Go. I don't want to see you again." He hadn't raised his voice yet. But the determination in his eyes broke Merlin's heart. The calm command was somehow worse than if Arthur had screamed at him because Merlin knew he had no choice. He had lost him, the person he loved most in this world. Forever.

The warlock turned around and walked away from the clearing into the deep forest without looking back. A tear tripped down from the cheek of the King and hit the floor silently.
