Two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy. - Tiny Buddha.
She never thought it would get this bad. When she made her choice it was supposed to protect the people she cared about, but in doing so she has ruined herself in the process.
She's not sure what would have happened if she would've chosen differently, sometimes she wished there wasn't a choice. That she remained ignorant of her fate, but she knew that was entirely too dangerous.
She realized that she was not Elena anymore, at least not all of her was.
Elena scanned the room, her mouth formed a frown when she saw Alexander's dead body. She loathed those witches for trying to use the child as a bargaining chip just to get to her.
The old Elena would've done everything possible to save the child's life, but she only watched as they slit his neck, only giving them a wicked smile before killing them all in the most dreadful way she could.
After leaving the small house, Elena decided that it was finally time to leave Spain. She had killed far too many people there and staying any longer would put her at risk of being discovered.
She knew that the time to go back to Mystic Falls was now, she just wasn't ready for it. Everyone thought she was dead, Helen made sure of that before she left.
Before Elena returned to the land of the living Helen made an appearance, she had vaguely warned Elena of what the future holds.
With the knowledge Elena gained, she made the decision to run away from everything and everyone she knew. To deal with her fate alone, but nothing ever seemed to go her way.
About a week after she ran the witches started coming after her, threatening her, but never harming her. Elena didn't know what they wanted, but she sure as hell was not about to give anything to them.
"You're going back?" A voice asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"Yes."
"It's a bad idea, you haven't controlled your..." Zoey stopped as a group of people walked past them.
Zoey was one of the only witches that Elena liked, aside from her best friend Bonnie. Elena had met Zoey 7 months ago, a few weeks after she ran.
Zoey was a very powerful witch and was about to be sacrificed by the witches of her coven, Elena had saved her. Zoey had been only 15 at the time, despite her age she was very intelligent and a fast learner.
Elena was sure that Zoey knew why the witches were after her, but Zoey always avoided the topic. Eventually, Elena stopped trying to find out the reason why.
Zoey spent months trying to help Elena control her magic, but nothing was working. Zoey feared that one day Elena's magic would overwhelm her, but Elena never seemed to worry about it.
"I'll be fine." Elena responded, looking around the airport.
"I made something for you." Zoey commented, rubbing her arm nervously.
Elena raised an eyebrow as the girl went fumbling in her bag. Zoey pulled out a small black Jewelry box and placed it into Elena's hands.
"It's a dark object... It will prevent you from using your magic as long as you wear it. Promise me you won't take it off, unless you absolutely need to." Zoey implored.
Elena sighed and opened the small Jewelry box. Elena stared at the golden bracelet in awe. It was one of the most beautiful things she had ever seen, it even had small diamonds etched into it.
"You made this?" Elena asked in disbelief.
Zoey nodded her head, while her fingers played in her hair.
"Do you like it?" Zoey asked with a hopeful look in her eyes.
"Yes, I like it." Elena said apathetically.
Zoey's eyes sparkled as she pulled Elena into a hug with a huge smile on her face. This was the happiest she had ever seen Elena when Elena wasn't killing people.
Elena never let Zoey near the danger and had always tried to prevent Zoey from seeing the deaths caused by her hand. Of course, there had been some slip-ups. Zoey had never been afraid of Elena as crazy as it sounded, she trusted Elena with her life.
"When will I see you again?" Zoey asked, pulling out of the hug.
"Whenever you want, I suppose."
With that Zoey pulled away from the hug smiling at Elena before she turned around and left the airport.
Elena boarded the plane, sitting down before glancing down at her left palm. A sorrowful smile graced her lips as she traced the 'N' scar that she had gotten what felt like a lifetime ago.
Elena closed her eyes, dreading what was to come next.
