Elena wakes up to a knock at her door. She quickly gets dressed and opens the door, only to find Klaus waiting for her."Klaus, is something wrong?" Elena asks.
"We need to talk." He said, holding his arm out.
Elena looks at him questioningly before putting her arm through his. Klaus leads her to his car and opens the door for her. Elena quickly gets in the car and waits for Klaus to join her. It did not take long for them to arrive at their destination. Klaus parked his car on the side of the road and got out.
Klaus led her deep into the woods, only giving her a light-hearted laugh when she tried to question him about where they were going. She was beginning to get frustrated with him, it felt like they had been walking for hours, but she calmed herself down and tried to enjoy the nature that surrounded them.
Klaus eventually stopped in his tracks and turned his attention to Elena, who was admiring the pure beauty of their current location. She looked at the beautifully built gazebo, that was placed near a gorgeous clear lake, in awe. It looked like it had been pulled straight out of a fairytale or a very beautiful movie, she had never seen anything like it before.
"It's beautiful, is it not?" Klaus whispered in her ear.
"It is... how did you find this place?" Elena asked, unable to take her eyes off of it.
"That is a story for another time, love." Klaus said as he took her hands into his and lead them inside the gazebo.
"What are we doing here Klaus?" Elena asked.
Klaus silences her with a kiss and Elena freezes in her spot. He pulls away with a frown, he had been fearing this, she had not felt the same way.
"Klaus I-" Elena started but was interrupted.
"It's quite alright, love... I completely understand." Klaus tells her.
She looks as if she's about to cry as she shakes her head at him.
"No... no, you don't understand!"
"Then tell me love, what do I not understand?" Klaus asked.
Elena swallowed hard as Helen's words repeated in her mind.
'To love him is to lose him.' she had told her, warned her.
"I can't lose you, not now, not ever." She tells him with teary eyes.
"What are you talking about Elena?" Klaus asked, clearly confused.
"I love you Klaus, but we can't be together."
Elena turns to leave with tears falling from her eyes, but Klaus grabs her arm and turns her towards him. He was not intending to ever let her go, not after she had just told him that she loved him.
"Why?" Klaus asks.
"I'll be the death of you." She says.
Elena looks mortified as the words came out of her mouth, but Klaus did not seem to be bothered by the information.
"I highly doubt that." Klaus said with a chuckle, but the seriousness in Elena's eyes stopped him.
"Who told you this?" Klaus asked.
"Does it matter, Klaus? I will not put your life at risk because of me!" Elena yelled and turned away from him.
She stays in her place and doesn't try to walk away. She is unsure of why she stayed, she should've ran and never looked back. If Helen's words had been true, they were doomed the minute Klaus turned her body to face him.
"I will not let you walk away from me, Elena. I do not care about the consequences of our love, even if it results in my death."
Elena is silent as she attempts to process what Klaus had just said. She stares at him, unable to put her feelings into words.
She hesitates before pulling him in for a kiss, a kiss that would seal them together forever.
