Although a work of fiction, I was inspired by my great, great, great grandmother, Agnes Birrell.
Her courage and strength in saying goodbye to her home, Lanarkshire Scotland, her family, and everything she knew to come to America is awe inspiring. She was brave, strong, giving birth to 11 children, and passing away at the young age of 38. She never gave up on anything, always persevering, always coming out stronger on the other side.
I’ve never been to Scotland; it’s a dream of mine. Maybe when I’m old I can go to the home of my ancestors.
