nineteen: get in losers, we're going to wakanda
ELAINE WAS QUITE EXCITED TO SEE T'CHALLA, OKOYE, BUCKY, AND SHURI AGAIN. She sat in pilot while Natasha controlled the little things about the Quinjet in flight. Steve stood next to Elaine, giving her instructions.
"Drop to 2600, heading 0-3-0." Steve ordered as she flipped a few switches and began to drop them.
"I hope you're right about this." Sam spoke up from the back. "Or we're gonna land a lot faster than you want to."
A smile found its way onto Elaine's lips as their Quinjet headed straight into the trees of the forest. Instead of crashing into them, they passed through an invisible barrier, and the sight ahead was as beautiful as it was when she left. The buildings were surrounded by water, which was partially clear, but still extraordinary.
Elaine continued to fly them, even as her body began to glow with her energy protection. It was like that a lot in Wakanda, her powers always activating strongly here. She managed to keep her eyes the same so they didn't glow, not wanting to have her powers completely full so she wasn't drained of energy.
She landed the Quinjet smoothly on the pad, turning the jet off and allowing the rest to take place. The ramp lowered, revealing King T'Challa and the Dora Milaje behind him with their weapons.
Steve, Nat, and Elaine all walked out side by side while everyone else followed suit. The wind blew Elaine and Natasha's hair back with each step they took into the secret country. Elaine could see the surprise on Okoye's face when she noticed the jet black hair along with her glowing aura.
"Should we bow?" Elaine heard Bruce behind her as he slipped on a jacket.
"Yeah, he's a king." Rhodes replied, and Elaine laughed under her breath at how easily he fooled Bruce.
"Seems like I'm always thanking you for something." Steve greeted T'Challa, all but two members of the Dora Milaje by his side; Okoye and Ayo.
Steve and T'Challa shook hands, a friendly smile on both lips. Elaine then shook T'Challa's hand, not expecting him to bring her tanned hand to his lips and place a gentle kiss on it. A warmth spread across her cheeks, which was definitely more prominent because of her dark hair. They both retracted their hands, and Elaine saw that look from Okoye, making her bite back an annoyed smile.
There was no doubt that Elaine was beautiful, a lot of the Wakandans knew that from her time there. Okoye always teased her about all the guys chasing after her for her attention, but she always seemed to be focused on Bucky - Okoye teased her about that too.
The clearing of a throat from behind them caused Elaine to look over her shoulder, seeing Bruce do an awkward bow.
Rhodes looked over to Bruce with wide eyes. "What are you doing?"
T'Challa shook his head with an amused smile and a hand motion to politely stop him. "We don't do that here."
Elaine could only imagine the embarrassment from the poor man as they walked.
"So how big of an assault should we expect?" T'Challa asked.
Bruce ran between Elaine and Nat, slightly shoving himself between the two. "Uh, sir— sir, I think you should expect quite a big assault."
"How we looking?" Natasha asked, needing to know their odds of the fight.
"You will have my Kingsguard, the Border Tribe, the Dora Milaje, and.." T'Challa trailed off as they came to a stop, motioning to the side.
Bucky walked into their view, and a smile appeared on Elaine's face, showcasing her white and straight teeth. "And a semi-stable 100 year old man."
Elaine saw the new vibranium arm, which quite fancy. Steve and Bucky immediately pulled each other in a brotherly hug, and everyone watched the interaction with a smile.
"How you been, Buck?" Steve asked as they pulled away.
"Not bad, for the end of the world." Bucky replied with a genuine and joking smile before he turned to Elaine. He was much taller than she was when she wrapped her arms around his neck, his instinctively going to her waist before they also pulled back.

Elaine chose to stay outside with Bucky and Sam while everyone else went inside with Vision. A few minutes had passed before they all looked up, seeing a giant thing headed down. It looked like it was being used as a distraction before the real thing came down.
Sam pressed his earpiece to notify Steve. "Hey, Cap, we got a situation here."
The trio looked up, seeing the alien vessel slam into the defense shield over the Golden City. It completely exploded, not affecting anyone except Elaine.
"God, I love this place." Bucky said in admiration before the waves of pain caused by the vessel hit Elaine at full force.
She cried out in pain, clutching her head as she fell to her knees. Her breathing became harsh as she looked up. "They know I'm here. That was made to weaken my powers."
"Did it?" Sam asked, causing her to shake her head before standing up. "Good."
In his War Machine armor, Rhodes spoke up as well. "Don't start celebrating yet, guys. We got more incoming outside the dome."
Everyone watched the alien vessels land outside the dome, these ones not exploding. Everyone saw the destruction that was made before Elaine used her powers to their full extent.
Her eyes glowed a bright blue that looked almost white as her fists balled up energy that was similar to the protection around her body.
As soon as she did, another feeling washed through her, making her brows furrow as she remembered the last time she felt this. Death happened.
"We aren't going to win." She whispered, and nobody caught the words she said, but she knew she was right.
She just felt it.
