thirty one : whatever it takes

THE AIR AROUND ELAINE'S GROUP WAS COLD, SOMETHING SHE WAS USED TO. The air smelled of the aftermath of a rainstorm, when you step outside and smell the rainwater and cement. Her head was pounding, and rightfully so. Her head felt so full, yet she would never be able to fully empty her thoughts.

The sky was beautiful, purple hues mixed with some blues. It looked like a sunset, but more dark, filled with more secrets. The scuffling in the background snapped Elaine into the reality of what just happened. They were on another planet back in time.

Her first instinct was to puke, and the lump in her throat made her do just that. She turned around threw up whatever lunch was left in her stomach, holding her hair back until she finally stopped puking.

She spit out the horrible aftertaste in her mouth as Natasha chuckled beside her. "Bad flight?"

Elaine stood straight again, turning to her best friend. "More like bad life."

Rhodes continued to instruct Nebula on bringing their ship onto the grounds of Morag, leaving Elaine Natasha, and Clint with the big ship. There were these small alien creatures that looked like deformed rats continuing to try and attack Natasha and Elaine, causing both women to kick the ugly creatures away from them.

Clint, Nat, and Elaine all grimaced. Clint looked up from the alien. "Hey, can we hurry it up?"

"Guys, chop-chop. Come on. We're on the clock." Natasha chimed in.

Rhodes turned around in annoyance. "All that is really helpful." The sarcasm was spilling from each word.

After saying their goodbyes and departing, the trio boarded their ship and took off, leaving Nebula and Rhodes on Morag to retrieve their stone.

The second the ship took off, Elaine was more relaxed, watching the elements of space fly past her.

"We're a long way from Budapest." Clint joked, Elaine laughing along with Natasha after she recalled what Natasha told her about Budapest.

The trio looked at the planet through the glass, the mesmerizing colors and the cloud like elements fading from half of Vormir.

"Wow. Under different circumstances, this would be totally awesome." Clint said, and Elaine would have agreed if she didn't suddenly get a horrible ache in her gut.

Vormir was all sand and lakes of water. The planet had only one mountain, and it was obviously the place they had to go. Elaine trailed behind them as she clenched her glowing fists filled with her power.

Elaine did not like this planet.

The higher they climbed, the colder it got, the dents in the rocky mountain filled with something similar to snow.

"I bet the raccoon didn't have to climb a mountain." Natasha groaned.

"Technically he's not a raccoon, you know?" Clint sassed.
