"Rose! Darling? Are you ready?" I was starring into my mirror at my reflection, looking myself up and down wondering if I was making the right decision as my long-term boyfriend, Luke came waltzing into my room. "The car is packed. We better get going if we want to make it in good time." I had not taken my eyes of myself as he spoke and left again, hurtling down the stairs. I took a deep breath and sighed. My long brown chestnut hair fell down my back, my sky blue eyes sparkled, and my clothing, well, my clothing was plain.
Once I had managed to tear myself away from the mirror, I took one more final look around the room I would be leaving behind for the next four years, only visiting when I come home for holidays. I picked my shoulder bag up and slung it over my shoulder, before turning on my heal and heading downstairs. My mum stood at the front door with her proud, broad smile she wore ever since I got accepted in to New York University. My mum placed both of her hands on to each of my shoulders, pulling me in to a big hug before turning towards the car where Luke already sat. I took one last look in the doorway before joining both of them in the car.

Traffic was not so bad on the way to NYU and it only took us two hours to drive. Luke pulled the car up in the parking lot, right outside the dorms, my new home for the next four years. Both my mum and Luke stepped out of the car and looked around the grounds as I sat there paralysed, to nervous to start my new life. Luke had noticed I still sat in the backseat of the car, he ran round to my side and pulled the door open for me to step out.
"You alright, Rose?" Luke asked as I took his hand for balance as I touched the ground of the parking lot. I stood up straight and took my surroundings in. The grounds were massive, and I just knew I would get lost just finding my way back to my dorm each day.
"Yeah," I sighed.
"Hunny, this is amazing! We better go to the office, get your keys," My mum excitedly exclaimed. She seemed a bit more excited than myself, you would almost think she was the one moving in.
Luke locked the car, still holding all my things, as the three off us made our way to the main office. Luckily for us, it was heavily signposted, otherwise we would have most likely been looking around for the next week. The office was empty, except for the reception lady sitting at the front desk, she looked young enough, friendly almost. She had long blonde wavy hair, a face full of make-up, a perky smile, and was wearing business like clothes. She typed away on the computer, oblivious to the fact we had just walked in.
The door behind us closed, and the blonde looked up, smiling wildly at us. "Hello, moving in?"
"Yes," My mum answered for me.
"Great. Name?" The receptionist asked.
"Rose Williams," Again my mum answered, not even giving me a chance to speak for myself.
The blonde receptionist typed away on her computer before saying: "Great, Rose, you are in room 123. On the first floor, you do have a sophomore room mate." The blonde stood and reached for a key from behind her before handing it to me with that smile that never left her face.

We went back to unpack the car and gather all my things, I did not have too much, so between the three of us, we managed comfortably. We took the lift up one level to the first floor, and followed all the door numbers down to 123. We stood outside the door, I stared at the room number for a few seconds before my mum nudged me with her elbow. I placed the bags I had been holding up against the doorway as I fished for my key in my jeans pocket, unlocking the door and letting it swing open to reveal a girl with half green and half blue hair sitting on one of the beds.
"You must be Rose?" The girl exclaimed as she engulfed me in a hug taking me by surprise. "I'm Kathrine, but call me Kath."
As she let go of me, I turned my head to see that disapproving look my mum always gives when something is not up to her standards. I could see that she already did not approve of Kath, just by her appearance.

It took about an hour for us to unpack my belongings and get everything how I like, like I said I don't own a lot. By then it was getting late for Luke and my mum and I knew they had to be heading home, as it would be dark by the time they reached our small town. I walked both my mum and Luke out to the car to say my goodbyes. My mum was first, kissing me on the forehead and bidding her goodbye before jumping in the car.
Luke looked at me, really looked at me before stating: "I am going to miss you, Rose."
"I'll miss you too. You'll come visit again shortly?" I ask with plea in my voice.
"Of course, you won't be getting rid of me that easily," He chuckled pulling me into a tight hug. "I love you," He whispered into my neck.
"I love you," I whispered back. Luke pulled away and gave me a light soft kiss, before leaving me standing on the sidewalk. He gave me a small wave before stepping into the car, and before I knew it they were both gone, leaving me on my own for the very first time.
