The weekend went by in a flash and it was soon Monday, the first day of classes. Kath hadn't been back to the dorm all weekend, and I really didn't mind because even though I liked Kath, and she was nice enough to me, I didn't like her friends very much. So if not seeing Kath meant not seeing her friends, I was completely okay with that.

I got myself ready with plenty of time, so I decided to take a slow walk to find my very first University class, Writing. I stopped off at the campus coffee shop and decided to get a caramel latte, I still had an hour until class starts and I worked out roughly where about my class would be held.

As I turned to leave the coffee shop, Hero came waltzing in followed by Harriett, the both of them seemed to be angry with each other and arguing. They didn't at first see me, and it wasn't like I intended to listen in on their conversation, it just happened, and honestly, I was intrigued.

"I don't know why you bother," Hero angrily stated.

"It's over, what part of that don't you understand!" Harriett retorted.

"Oh and I suppose you did that on my account," Hero sarcastically stated.

"What is wrong with you? Seriously Hero, you have some real growing up to do. Not everything is about you." As Harriett said that she spotted me standing there just metres away. "Rose? Hey, how are you?" Her tone in her voice changed, and it was back to that soft British accent of hers.

"Hey, yeah I'm all good," I replied stumbling over my words.

"Heard what you wanted to?" Hero asked.

"Ignore him," Harriett stated. "Well, lovely seeing you again." Harriett added as she walked off pulling Hero by the arm. Hero glared at me as they reached the counter of the coffee shop.

I tried to ignore and push away the hatred I started to feel towards Her as I made my way to my first class. I was a little surprised to see that I wasn't the first one to arrive. A guy with a backpack on his back stood outside the door waiting patiently. I slowly made my way to the door and tried the handle.

"It's locked, I've already tried," The guy stated startling me. "I'm Josh."

"Rose," I said sticking my hand out for him to shake.

"A couple of early birds I see," The teacher of this class said as he walked up to us and unlocked the door, he entered, and we both followed suit. We decided to sit next to each other at the front of the class. Soon enough the class started to fill up with all the other students, and to my surprise, Hero entered amongst the others. He sat two rows above me and I could feel his eyes on the back of my head.

"Right, now that we all have arrived. Let's start. Topic today is 'love'. I would assume most of you would have read some sort of romance novel. By the end of this semester, I would like it if you could all write a shot story involving love. Now can anyone tell me what love means to you?" The teacher explained, my hand shot up into the air, before anyone else had the chance. "Yes, Miss -"

"Williams. Love is a power thing, an emotion that everyone has, whether it be for a parent, sibling, or a partner. We all feel it at one stage in our lives. But love between two individuals who share a passion for each other is a beautiful thing, its a powerful emotion, that could even be tough and heart-breaking at times," I answered.

I heard someone scoff behind me, I turned to see Hero sniggering. What could he possibly know about love? He is the most emotionless person I have ever met, he seems to only have one emotion. Which is anger.

"Mr. Thomas, care to add?" The teacher asked raising an eyebrow.

"Love is stupid, everyone seems to be in a trance when it comes o love. Love is what we tell ourselves we need, but in reality we just want to be accepted. Love is fake, how do you even know you love someone? You don't," Hero stated.

"Love is not stupid, it's powerful. If you only had a little bit of love in your life, maybe you'd understand," I retaliated.

As I left the classroom I heard the familiar British accent calling my name. I decided to ignore it and carry on walking down the corridor until a hand grabbed my wrist and stopped me.

"Do you really believe in all that shit about love? You do realise stories, are stories for a reason," Hero stated as I turned to face him.

"Look, class has finished, so we don't have to discuss anymore." I tried to leave but he kept grabbing my wrist to stop me.

"So you can reject my dare, eavesdrop on my conversation, and say I have no love in my life, but I can't have a simple conversation with you?" Hero rhetorically asked.

"And why would you want to do that?" I asked raising my eyebrow.

"Because I want to make sure how pathetic you sound," Hero replied.

"Pathetic? Are you serious? You don't even know me, we've spoken like once, I've spoken to your girlfriend more than you," I stated. Before he even had a chance to reply I turned swiftly and headed in the opposite direction.
