❝ I'm headed straight for the castle
They wanna make me their queen
And there's an old man sitting on the throne
That's saying that I probably shouldn't be so mean ❞

Over the years, Jo had gotten used to being called 'mean' or 'hotheaded' but she didn't really understand why.
She wasn't like Paul Lahote who would be getting into fist-fights what felt like every other day — even though she often agreed with his reason for fighting. So Jo couldn't understand why people thought she was hotheaded. Sure, she was impulsive and spoke her mind — and lately, without Harper there with her, controlling her reactions to stuff has proved to be quite difficult — but surely she wasn't hotheaded, right?
It wasn't until recently that she'd truly come to understand the reasoning behind the accusations.
It was late one day in March as a thunderstorm befell the town of Forks that Jo started to get that disturbing sensation in the pit of her stomach, like something deep inside her was warning her about something, setting her senses on high alert. Johara had been sitting in the garage with Grams, working on Rosita as Grams went off on a tangent about something or the other to do with the other tribe elders, when the phone rang.
Jo had been a little jumpy all day. Ever since she helped Bella pick out something to wear for her baseball date with Edward — the girls had gotten much closer since their initial meeting, seeing as they were the only ones that knew about the Cullens' secret — and sent her off with the vampire, Jo had been in a constant antsy state. Earlier, she had paced around Grams' living room at least fifteen times, chewing at her finger nails and the skin around them. Even going out for a smoke didn't help! Jo just couldn't understand what was bothering her.
And then came the phone call.
Jo watched as Grams' face fell, the creases in her olive skin deepening with worry.
"Grams?" Jo questioned, setting her tools aside and wiping the grease off her hands with a cloth, "What's wrong?"
Grams held the phone out to Jo, who took it wearily.
"Hello?"
"Jo?" Rosalie's voice spoke through the phone.
"Rose, what's going on?" Jo asked, "Why does Grams look so worried?"
"Something happened," Rosalie informed, "A nomad coven found us while we were playing and... long story short one of them, a tracker named James, wants to kill Bella."
