You betrayed me

And I know that you'll never feel sorry

For the way I hurt

God, I wish that you had thought this through

Before I went and fell in love with you

Embry had always hated his name.

I mean, it's kinda like Embry but not really. What's up with that?!, He'd think. In middle school he got relentlessly teased for it and who could blame them. It was right there.

He'd never say this to her but used to get kinda mad at his mom for picking that name for him. But he'd never forget the day that he finally started to think that maybe it wasn't so bad after all.

"Johara," he had recognised with surprise.

Embry stood outside Sam and Emily's cabin, getting ready for his shift on patrol, a shift he was taking alongside Leah since nobody else wanted her to be their patrol partner — in their defence she was super snappy and rude and just generally scary.

But actually, Embry and Leah weren't on the worst of terms. In fact, there were times when Embry would even dare to call them friends. Okay, maybe not friends but acquaintances at the very least. They were civil. Could be because they both had a similar distaste for imprinting — in her case because of Sam and Emily and now the patrol thing too — or maybe because they both held some level of affection for Johara Black — for Leah as a dear close friend and for Embry as something he didn't quite fully understand as yet.

Speaking of Leah, Jo was just dropping her off for her patrol shift.

Jo sighed as she stood beside Rosita, waiting for Leah to finish up in the bathroom so she could say bye.

"Call," Jo greeted coldly, as per usual.

"You dropping Leah off?" He asked, making small talk in an attempt just to talk to her.

Lately, he'd found himself reminiscing about those few times he'd gotten to have a real conversation with Jo. Those were some of the best conversations he'd ever had with anyone. He'd gotten to catch a glimpse of the real Johara Black, the Johara Black that was sweet and funny and actually gave him the time of day long before his physique had changed.

"Yeah," she answered shortly.

A beat of awkward silence went by before Jo cleared her throat and took a small step in his direction. She kept her gaze lowered, her flickering irises concealed by her sunglasses.
