A/N: Hey guys! I am so sorry it's taken a such a long time to update! I've been really busy with school and exams and I've only had time to gradually write it, but I finally found time (in between coursework aha) to finish the last few paragraphs! Please vote and review and I will update soon - hopefully a lot quicker this time! - Caitlin

Chapter 2

All was silent in the bomb shelter as everyone settled – everyone had huddled into the bars’ cellar, that had, in recent years, been turned into a suitible shelter in air raids. There was some stocked up alcohol packed in crates in one corner, a rotting bookshelf full of old kids books and cooking books from decades back and a few tables and chairs, mostly old or broken that had only been moved down here because it would be a waste to throw perfectly good wood out, although for one thing, it was most definetely cold. The cellar was underground 10 feet and all that was surrounding them, both above and beside, was stone, and there were no heating apart from two tiny light bulbs that gave of the only bit of light apart from some candles and lanterns now lit up for the occasion. Rose didn’t want to accept the fact this was where she was staying the night, but she had to. She wanted to talk, perhaps it would make her forget about the cold or the fact that she wouldn’t be getting out of this cellar until morning, or maybe even later. Rose was starting to worry about her mother, whether she was safe alone, or if her mother herself was panicking about Rose being okay.

John shot her a look, noticing that she had expressed a nervous look, only for him to mouth ‘Are you ok?’. Rose nodded in reply, before leaning backwards against the wall, looking at all the people in the cellar. It was a lot smaller than the bar, which meant that space was even more tight than before. Rose was glad that maybe she would warm up from other people’s body heat.

Even under 10 foot of stone, planes could be heard flying over head, following heavy gunfire between what sounded like hundreds of planes. Then next came an explosion. It sounded so close, and Rose could hear the bar shaking above, and the occasional wine glass shattering on the floor. She prayed to herself that no one was hurt, and, at worst, it wasn’t her own home with her mother inside that the bomb had caught.

All of a sudden a radio came on from a crowd in one corner, and the people stood near to it all gasped and cheered as music engulfed the room. It was happier and indeed lightened the mood. It was what Rose needed. She feared that sitting any longer in silence could’ve driven her insane as the anxiety living inside her mind was the only thing she could hear.

People had gotten up and started dancing to the swinging music and others had begin talking again. It had became a much happier atmosphere despite the horrific air raid going on in Britains skies.

‘You alright?’ John repeated again, looking at Rose, was observing every one.

‘Yeah…’ Rose looked at him and smiled, ‘Just worried.’

‘Worried? I thought you said the war didn’t frighten you.’ John raised an eyebrow.

‘Boring.’ Rose said blandly, ‘I said it was boring. I’m just worried my mum’s hurt.’

‘She’ll be fine; I’m sure of it.’ He gave a reassuring smile but Rose wasn’t all too convinced. If she was their beside her mum and see she was safe then she would believe his words but he couldn’t guarantee she was ok.

‘How good are the services with saving people at times like this?’ Rose piped up.

‘I’m sure they do their best. They get there as quick as possible.’
