On some days, Boni couldn't think of anything else besides his past. This was one of those days. His mind could not concentrate on the homework lying in front of him, he was constantly distracted by his thoughts.

How would life be if he still lived with his parents? The boy imagined the worst. He knew he would never have started streaming if he'd still lived with them.  That was quite a scary thought. Streaming was his only escape his problems, so he really didn't even want to imagine a life without it.

Uncle Arthur and aunt Betty really showed him the bright side of life, a side he'd never seen before. His parents weren't bright, not at all. Boni clearly remembered the screaming, the crying and the fights. He remembered the mean words his father always told him and the disappointed look on his mother's face, when he did something wrong in her eyes. Some days were worse than others, but Boni knew one thing for sure: there had never been a good day in the household. The good days in his life came later, after he moved in with his aunt and uncle. He loved the good days, but that didn't mean he could forget the bad ones. They would always stay in his life. His past would always chase him, no matter how hard he was running from it.

The math exercise in front of him wasn't filled in. The letters on the paper formed words he didn't even understand. Especially not on days like these.

With a sigh, he put the worksheets away. School could wait for now. The small paper wrinkled a bit, but that was really the last thing Boni worried about. He turned back to his desk and stared a bit at the gray wall, deeply sunken in his thoughts.

The brown eyes of his mother stared at him in his mind. Other people always described them as warm. Boni knew better than that. Those brown eyes always made him feel like he was worthless, like he was a nobody. Boni shook his head, trying to get the eyes out of his mind, but it didn't work. On the contrary: the blue eyes he recognised as his dad's appeared next to the brown ones. They looked at him sternly. He felt like the small boy from then years ago again, who was afraid of his own parents.

He imagined his father's voice speaking to him. Telling him to not cry, because it wasn't manly. Telling him how disappointed he was in him. Boni couldn't imagine a single positive thing coming out of his dad's mouth. At least, not something he really meant. His father seemed nice when there were other people around, but Boni knew it was just an act.

Back in those dark days, there was only one thing that kept him sane. One person, actually: Finn.  He understood Boni, but never asked anything. Sometimes, he just stood silently by his side, when he knew Boni needed help. He was Boni's best friend. Not only that, he was also his only friend. But it was enough. They had each other and didn't need anything else besides that.

Then, the two pairs of eyes in his mind faded. They made place for the eyes of a young child. Boni immediately recognised them. How could he not?

They were Finn's.

It hurt to know the boy wasn't a kid anymore, he probably looked very different now. Boni was curious how the boy looked now, since it had been ten years. He wasn't the small child anymore, he was a teenager now. But the same was true for Boni. Would Finn even remember his old friend? Boni really hoped he did, but deep inside he knew it had been ten years. A lot can change in ten years. Maybe Finn wasn't the sweet person Boni remembered. But how could he? Finn was always the nicest, the sweetest and the smartest. He wouldn't even hurt a fly.

Then, Boni thought about the day he left. He clearly remembered it and deep inside, it still hurt. He remembered the look on Finn's face and the pain in his heart.

Ten years earlier, 2011

"Boni?" Finn had asked him on that sad friday, "What are you thinking of?" A few minutes earlier, the boys were playing together in the playground. But Finn noticed something was off. Boni was even quieter than he was normally. Finn didn't want his friend to be sad, he wanted to help him.

Boni's small past self looked down at the ground, scared to tell his best friend the sad news. But Finn wasn't a dumb kid. He always knew when Boni was worrying about something. With a frown, he sat down and looked at his best friend. "You can tell me everything, you know that right?" Finn said. His eyes always had a twinkle in them. It made him look like the happy boy he was. But on that moment, Finn didn't have the twinkle in his eyes.

"I'm moving,' Boni said quietly. The sound of his voice was so soft, he didn't think Finn could've heard him. But the boy did.

"Where to?" He asked. But he knew the answer would hurt him. Boni moved his head upwards and looked his friend dead in the eyes. For a few seconds, neither of the boys said a thing. But then Boni's voice broke the silence.

"Florida."

Finn sat frozen in his place. He wanted to scream, to say how it was not fair. But he didn't. Finn was a smart child and he knew it wouldn't help. It would only make things worse. He wanted to cry, but he held back his tears. He refused to believe this would be the end of their friendship. It couldn't be.

"Oh," he said. He thought for a bit. "When?"

"On sunday"

"So we can't play together anymore?" Boni shook his head.

"When will you come back?" Finn asked, although he knew the answer. It just couldn't be true.

"I don't think I will come back."

"Oh..." Finn said, "So this is our last time playing together?" Boni nodded. Finn got up and held out his hand, for Boni to get up. The younger boy accepted the invite, but looked at the other boy with a confused look on his face.

"I don't want our last time playing together to be sad," Finn explained, with a smile on his face. Before Boni could respond, he felt a finger tapping him on his shoulder. "Tag, you're it!" Finn said, before running away. For a second, Boni stood in silence.  "Wait, that isn't fair, I was not ready yet!" Boni yelled at his friend, after chasing him through the playground.

And that day was the last time the two friends had seen each other. But they didn't ever forget each other, neither of them could.

- A/N -

Some of you already figured out Finn is Ranboo, and this chapter really confirmed it so I just want to say a few things:

-I don't want to assume Ranboo's real name! For the sake of the story, I named him Finn. Ranboo is uncomfortable with people finding out private stuff about him, so please be respectful!

-Same goes for Ranboo's past, family and basically everything about him in this story. We don't know anything about his life and I'm sure he wants to keep it that way. Everything I say in this book is fiction!

Thank you so much for reading this book! It brings me so much joy to read your comments :D
