He said "I can't breathe"
I said "SAY IT LOUDER!"
Let your voice ring strong,
Like lightning and thunder!
Let it tell the tales,
That have long been forgotten,
Of freedom stolen,
And bridges built stronger.But wait,
Has our voices been taken from us?
By police, officials, and 'law enforcers'.
By those who see the color,
and ignore the person under the skin.
By those whose eyes bypass the goodness in us,
Who refuse to read the stories,
Told by the scars that mar us, out and within. They said "Land of the Free"
Was it all a lie?
Are we all so different?
Don't we all have 2 feet, hands, a nose, mouth and eye.
Can't we all feel emotions,
Does it really matter where we came form?
For being with such intelligence,
We sometimes behave very inhuman and dumb.We act as though our species,
Is the best one of all.
Yet we turn our back on our brothers,
And neglect our sisters when they call.
We abuse our power and talents,
And turn a blind eye,
As those we should care about, fall. The differences we should be embracing,
We turn into a curse.
For people who look down on evil,
We sometimes behave far worse.
"I cannot breathe!"
"Let me up!"
What do these words say to you?
Do you understand their significance,
Or will you turn a blind eye too?Humanity does not make you human,
I say more oft than not.
What does it benefit one,
To take another's life,
Only to loose the one you've got?
Every man for themselves, they say,
But that is what costs may their life,
When all is said and done.My message here today,
Is for every ear that will hear it,
For every eye that will see,
For every mouth that will share the message,
That has been told to you and me.Stop discriminating one another!
The skin tone, hair, eyes, background and face does NOT matter!
Let us all put aside out differences,
And love each other like brother and sister.
Let our voices blend together,
"Let us up!" "Let us breathe!"
Lift up your hands,
And let your melody be heard.
Down the valleys, up the mountains,
Let is roar with power!Let faith and hope,
Be our guiding hand,.
And let joy and freedom,
Once again, fill this land!By Shamiah James Blugh
