"Amanda! Wake up!" My dad yells from the door. " This is the third time I've been in here so go get in the shower!" I groaned and walked into my bathroom. It took only moments for me to realize how important today was. Today was the first day of seventh grade. I rushed to get in and out of the shower. Once I finished I took special care with my hair and makeup. I carefully curled each strand of hair, and covered the blemishes on my face with concealer. I finished with a swipe of lipgloss and ran to get ready. I stared at the outfit that I had picked out the night before, hoping that everyone would like it. I got dressed, and stood in front of the mirror. It would have to do. I decided to skip breakfast, I didn't need any extra pounds anyways.
When I got to school, I felt like everyone had their eyes on me. I looked across the room and spotted Gina, one of the most popular girls in school, wearing my exact outfit, the only difference was that it looked much better on her. I knew from that moment that this would be a terrible day. I sat down, alone, hoping that someone would take pity on me. I sat quietly until I saw a girl that I had been friends with the prior year. Halle was the most beautiful girl in school. She was not only pretty on the outside, but she was also kind, talented, and loving. She saw me sitting alone, and came to talk to me. "OMG! I missed you so much!" she exclaimed. I knew that she was trying to be nice. I put on a fake smile and hugged her. For a moment I thought that maybe, just maybe, that she had really missed me. "Halle! Over here!" Gina called. Halle gave me a look of pity and walked away. I slumped back into my seat. Only moments later, Halle was beside me again. "You're coming with me aren't you?" She laughed. I smiled and skipped behind her. Maybe this year wouldn't be all that bad. I took a deep breath. "Hey guys!" I exclaimed. Most of the group responded with hugs, while some just nodded. I have to act like them. Then they'll like me. Then I would be happy. I went through the first periods of my day. Athletics, English, Band, Homeroom. There were only five minutes left in Homeroom before I realized what came next. Lunch.
