The year had finally gotten started. Weeks flew by, it's a lot like and endless cycle of "just make it until Friday." Anyway I haven't had to worry about my grades so I should be happy, right? Wrong. I still remember what happened. The announcements buzzed on and we said the pledges. We were told to sit and wait for the following announcements. "Students," the principal's voice rang. "this Friday, Student Council will be hosting the Home Coming dance." Great. Most girls around me squealed with delight. They of course, would have a date. Soon, everyone was making posters and arranging ways to ask someone. The next day, Jack approached me. My heart started racing. Is he going to ask me? "Hey, Amanda? I was um- wondering if you had the math homework?" Moment destroyed. I did my best to smile, "Yeah, just do pages 67-69." He smiled and thanked me. Then he walked away. That didn't just happen. I pit formed in my stomach when I realized that it had. Even though, I didn't have a date, I still hade to go to the dance for StuCo. I had to go alone. The night of the dance, I put on my new dress, fixed my hair and makeup, and tried not to be disappointed that no one had asked me. When I got to the dance, I immediately scoured the room for Halle. I found her talking to some other girls. I walked over and complemented her dress, and hair. She did the same. Soon the DJ was playing slow songs. I stood awkwardly in the corner, hoping for a pity dance. Jack walked towards me. I can't believe this is actually happening! He asked me to dance. During the middle of the next slow song, I saw Halle walking towards the bathroom, looking like she was about to cry. Crap. I knew I had to follow her. "Um- I have to go to the restroom, I'll be back in a sec." I darted to the restroom, only to see Halle with mascara down her face. "What happened?" I asked. "Ben- he- he- stood me up." she sobbed. I felt terrible. "I knew he was a jerk. He needs to know that you can get any guy that you want. You don't need him." She smiled. "I don't, do I." I laughed and pulled out my mascara I had brought for emergencies. She wiped her face as I filled her in on the night's events. We walked back into the cafeteria, where the dance was being held, and I saw something horrific, Jack and Gina, slow dancing.
