Zach's pov.
I glanced at the clock: 1:21 a.m.
Clarissa had fallen asleep a while ago, so I just watched more episodes of the show.
I looked down at Clarissa. She had laid down on her side on the couch. I slipped off the couch and stretched.
Not sure what I should do, I decided to take Clarissa to her bed. I crouched down and slid my arms under her. She stirred slightly but did not wake. I stood up with her in my arms.
'She weighs like nothing' I thought.
Carefully, I walked down the hall and into my old bedroom. I was so glad that after I had made her bed with the new covers I bought, I folded the corner down so it looked all fancy.
I set her down and pulled the covers over her. Quietly, I walked out of the room.
"Zach?" a voice whispered behind me.
I turned around. Clarissa was laying on her side with the blankets pulled up to her chin.
"Yeah?"
"Could you, uh, spend the night in here. Just on the floor?"
"Yeah. Of course. Let me grab some blankets."
I walked down the hall to the closet and got a few blankets and a few pillows, them walked back to Clarissa's room and laid them on the floor.
After a few minutes of rearranging, I was comfortable on the floor and she was comfortable on the bed.
I stared at the ceiling in the dark. The moon must of came out from behind the clouds, because the room filled with a silvery light.
A head popped out from above. It was Clarissa. I couldn't see her face but I saw her cheeks pop out a little so I figured she smiled. I smiled back and she disappeared.
I lay there listening to the traffic from several blocks away, fill the night and Clarissa's breathing steadied out.
One hour later
My eyes opened. On high alert, I listened for what woke me up. Not hearing anything, I slowly started to fall asleep.
Knock
This time, I shot up and looked around. I looked from left to right, straining to hear anything. Another knock filled the silence. I looked to where I heard it: the corner. The corner where no light was shining.
Something caught my eye. Clarissa wasn't in the bed. I looked back to the corner and barely made out another darker shadow, hunched down in the corner.
"Clarissa?" I said.
No reaction.
I got up and walked over to the corner, sticking my hand out to who I thought was Clarissa. I touched a face but something caught me off surprise. I pulled my hand back quickly and held it in the moonlight.
A deep red liquid ran down my fingers.
Trying to stay calm, I lift my fingers to my nose and smelt... blood.
Moving faster than I ever have in my whole life, I got to the light switch and flipped it on.
I looked over to the corner and saw Clarissa hunched in the corner with blood running down her face. She punched the hollow-sounding wall.
'That must've been the knocking I heard earlier' I thought.
I quickly made it over to Clarissa and touched her shoulder.
"Clarissa?"
Silence.
I shook her shoulder a little.
"Clarissa."
Her head popped up and looked around the room, confused.
"Clarissa?"
She looked at me.
"What-?" she started to say then saw the blood on the floor.
She looked at me again. Alarmed this time. And scared.
"I'm not sure what happened," I said.
"I don't remember doing any of it," she confessed.
"That's okay. Let's get you cleaned up."
I took her hand and helped her up. I led her to the bathroom and got a rag.
After I ran it under water for a second and squeezed it out so it was damp, I held her chin loosely and started to wipe the blood off her left temple and down her face.
"Zach?" Clarissa said.
"Yeah?"
"Do you think we could watch a movie?"
"Yeah, of course," I replied.
We picked up some of the blankets and pillows and took them to the couch. I laid them out while she looked through my movie collection.
"You found one?" I asked after I finished laying the blankets and pillows out all pretty.
"Almost. A, L, or T?" she asked.
"A," I replied.
"Ok. Don't look. It's a surprise."
I turned my head.
"Okay, you can look now."
I faced the tv and sat down by an armrest. She picked up the remote for the DVD player and the tv and brought them over to the couch.
Clarissa sat down down next to me, giving me the remotes. I turned the tv on and got to the right input.
The previews started and we got comfy.
I was leaned in the corner of the back of the couch and the armrest and she was cuddled into my arm. She had her own blanket and I had mine.
The movie started.
"Aladdin," I said.
"Yup," she replied, as she snuggled up in her blanket.
I smiled to myself and we watched the movie.
