I went to my apartment instead of the hospital.
When I got inside my bed room, I laid on my bed and fell asleep.
One week later
I was sitting by Clarissa's hospital bed. Her goose egg had gone down quite a bit.
It was 11:30 a.m. I had asked for the day off and Jessica gladly have it to me.
When I woke up this morning, after I had shower and got dressed, I did some errands.
First I went to the grocery store. I got some cereal, bread, and a few more things I could eat for breakfast.
When I was down the cereal I saw that guy that was with Kenzie.
He walked up to me. "Hey man."
I faked a smile,"hey."
"What's up?"
"Not much, just getting some groceries."
"Nice. Thanks for telling me Kenzie was just trying to make you jealous. I feel bad, though. I wish that I knew then I would've taken her somewhere else."
"Hey, don't worry 'bout it man. It's cool."
He gently punched my arm then walked away.
Right before he turned the corner, I saw a girl walk up to him and they held hands.
Pain ached in my heart. I missed Clarissa. I hoped that when she wakes up, that sooner or later (preferably sooner) we will be a couple.
I finished shopping then once I took my groceries to my apartment, I headed to work, to hang out and maybe help if they needed it.
Jessica greeted me as I walked in. A few other people smiled at me as I walk past and I had a feeling Jessica told a few people about Clarissa being in a coma.
I thought about the past few nights that I did go to the hospital, while I put on my apron. I started talking to Clarissa while holding her hand and every time, she stirred a tiny bit.
My train of thought was interrupted by two people coming in through the door. It was the guy with Kenzie and the girl that was with him at the store. They walked over to a booth and sat down. I walked over to them.
"Hey man. Good to see you again,"he said.
I faked a smile and tipped my head up.
He turned towards his girl friend and said,"this is..." he turned back to me. "What is you name?"
"Zach."
"I'm Jaxston," he said.
The girl with him smiled up at me. I gave her a small smile in return.
"And this is Baylee," he told me, gesturing to the girl.
"Nice to meet you," I said then set down some menus for them, then walked away.
A few minutes later, I walked back to Jaxston's table. They told me what they wanted to eat and I gave it to Reggie to cook. After 8 minutes, it was ready and I served it to them.
Nothing extraordinary happened for the rest of the day. I decided to go to the hospital after I cleaned up.
I walked into Clarissa's hospital room. A 'Get Well' card was sitting on the nightstand by her bed. I guessed it was from Jessica.
I walked over to the chair. Clarissa was still in the same position, her arms by her side, her head turned slightly towards me, and the blanket covered her stomach and lower.
The steady beeping on the machine of Clarissa's heartbeat, was the only thing I heard. It clammed me, knowing her heart was still beating. I leaned back in the chair, hoping to fall asleep.
Right as I about dozed off, the doctor came into a room.
"How are you, Zach?" he asked me.
I faked a smile,"good. How are you?"
"Great."
Silence filled the room. The doctor studied the heartbeat machine, writing a number down after one minute.
"She seems to sleep lighter when you're hear," he said.
That news surprised me. "Really?"
"Yeah. You should show up more often, she'll probably wake up sooner," the doctor said as he walked out the room.
I smiled to myself and scooted the chair closer to the bed, sideways.
I slouched down in the chair a put my feet up on the bed and held her hand with mine, as I closed my eyes.
It was two a.m. when I opened my eyes. I had slept good and, surprisingly, I was still in the same position. Slowly I stood up and stretched my cramped back.
I walked around the room to stretch my legs. At the end of her bed, I looked at her. She looked peaceful. And beautiful.
'She's my Sleeping Beauty,' I thought. 'Now I need to be the Prince Charming.'
I walked over to her side, by the chair. I slowly bent down. I moved a small bunch of hair off her cheek. I bent down further. My lips brushed hers.
I pulled back.
And her eyes fluttered open.
