DAVEYS POV:
I never really had any attraction to girls. I've always been told once I grow up I'll get it, but I never have. My brother is nine and has already had his first girlfriend. Meanwhile my heart won't stop racing everytime I'm around Jack. I don't get that feeling around anyone else. When he and Katherine broke up, I was oddly happy about it. I didn't want to be. I should've felt worse, but
Lately I've been working mornings, then having school immediately after work. Hard, yes, but I manage. At school, I stopped by the library because I finished the book I was reading. I found a book on the Lgbt spectrum. I read the page about different sexuality. Come to think about it, the way I feel around Jack is how people always describe love.
I've had this feeling around other guys in my childhood too. I just assumed I was awkward. I checked out the book, trying to avoid eye contact with others. I slid it into my backpack, then carried on with my day.
The next weekend, I showed up to work a little more confident having found out who I am. It may be illegal, but no one has to know.
"Mornin, Dave," Jack said.
His eyes were sparkling. His hair flowed with the wind.
"Good Morning, Jackie!" I replied.
He gently laughed. "You know, if literally anyone else called me that it'd make me so mad. Just shows how much you've grown on me."
I giggled. "Well that's good. I'm quite fond of you myself."
I like him more than he'd ever know. It's hard to act like I only like him as a friend, but I'll manage. As long as he's by my side, I'm happy.
"You know, you have a great smile," he said.
Oh no. Gay panic. Gay panic. Gay panic. My heart was racing.
"Oh...really?"
"Mhm. C'mon, get your papes so we can head to our normal selling spot."
I picked up my papes, still thinking about what he said. Is my smile that cute? I mean, I hope it is, and it sure felt nice hearing it from Jack. I went to our selling spot.
"Have you ever seen the view of the nights sky from a rooftop?" Jack asked.
"No, but I bet it's nice."
"Why don't I show ya tonight? We can meet at newsie square and I can take you up to my rooftop?"
I grinned. "I'd like that. I'll meet you here at sunset."
And that's just what I did. He looked so handsome in the moonlight.
"Davey!" He cheered, running up to me. "Follow me."
He lead me up the latter to his rooftop. I peacefully followed him, enjoying the view. There's no chance he'd feel the same, but nothing says I can't admire him.
He laid down. "Come here. Look at the stars from here."
I laid down next to him. If my heart wasn't racing before, it sure was now. The stars shined bright. Each one was unique.
"They're beautiful," I said.
"Not as beautiful as the view from here," he replied.
I looked at him and he was looking right at me. He was joking. I'm sure he was. I awkwardly giggled.
We sat up and leaned against the railing.
"Thank you so much for sharing this with me. It truly is gorgeous up here," I said softly.
He warmly smiled. "Of course."
We held eye contact for a second, both grinning, then without any warning he pressed his lips against mine.
I could feel my entire face go red. I kissed him back, brushing my fingers along his jawline.
He backed up. "Sorry, I should've asked first."
"I-it's fine," I said.
"You seem unsure. Is everything ok?"
"Yeah...it's just that was my first kiss..."
"Aww...Davey...is it ok that I-"
"Yes, of course it is," I smiled at him. "I've liked you for a long time, Jackie. I can't think of a better person for my first kiss to be with."
Jack grinned, then we kissed again.
