Chapter 15:Unfocused

For the past 6 months, Calli had taught me combat skills along with full-body workouts. But we haven't touched on swordsmanship at all, I am getting impatient but still, I decided to follow Calli's words. But today, the thing I was waiting for finally happened after having dinner...

"Bring your sword to the training grounds later." [Calli]

"O..Okay!"[Edge]

Mio-sha and Fubuki looked at me proudly and hoped that I would do well. I hugged the sword that's half of my height due to the long hilt into the training grounds. I've been doing maintenance on the sword regularly just for today, I knew how from reading books on it.

"Swords are run of the mill weapons for anyone, they have excellent reach and allow to be used for defense and offense. But today, we aren't here to learn about swordsmanship."[Calli]

"It would be about your sword."[Calli]

"But didn't Miko said that it's just a crappy sword?"[Edge]

"And she was wrong about it." [Calli]

She seems to know that i wasn't convinced

"Had you heard of Avalon?" [Calli]

"Knights of the rounds?"[Edge]

"They are the remnants of the past but there are 13 mystical swords that were said to hold magical capabilities."[Calli]

"My sword is magical?" [Edge]

"...You really need to wait till I'm finished boy*Guh*, it's very rude to cut into my narrative."[Calli]

"I'm sorry I was just excited".

"I'll make it quick and just show it to you then, here hand over the sword."[Calli]

"Long curved blade, a hilt that is a quarter of its length and the balance of the blade is in the middle of the grip. It's meant to be used like this!"[Calli]

Calli threw the blade like a spear, the blade changed its shape into a spiral with a pointy tip and it dug into a boulder in the distance.

"Should I... go pick it up?..."[Edge]

"There's no need"[Calli]

The sword that was tightly lodged in the boulder flew back towards Calli and was caught by Calli by the hilt.

"This is the ability in your sword. And the skill that lies in it."[Calli]

"Try doing it yourself"[Calli]

I threw the katana as hard as I could and it landed at a distance incomparable to Calli"s throw. The katana did not change its shape but I still try to pull it towards me.

"Imagine making it move towards you, what would you need to do?"[Calli]

"A string? And I pull it toward me?"[edge]

"Do it."[Calli]

After an hour of trying I managed to move the sword slightly.And then the sword started to move gradually towards me by sliding on the ground. And at the last 5 meters it flew up and was coming straight at my hand.And when it reached 2 meters, a scythe came into my sight and swung down between me and the sword.The sword fell down on the ground and landed next to my feet.

"So? What happened?"[Calli]

"You cut my line?" [Edge]

"No, I didn't cut anything." [Calli]

"Anyways now that you've learnt the basics you wouldn't be needing this sword for now."[Calli]

Calli threw the sword even farther this time and it landed on the other mountain next to ours.

"Hey! but I just learned it, how am I supposed to practice without it!"[Edge]

"You see, mystical swords or any legendary swords with abilities are only meant to serve as training wheels for those who wield them to learn how to use its ability themselves without the help of the sword. those who rely on the ability of the sword would fall short compared to those that could manage to wield the sword's power and grow their ability."[Calli]

"Therefore you would be practicing your ability with anything you could find now. Experiment it, isn't that what you excel at?"[Calli]

Everything she says makes sense, therefore I choose to trust her.

"Your target would be to retrieve the sword from here and until then you will not learn swordsmanship."[Calli]

"Oh come on how is that even possible."[Edge]

"Believe in yourself, slowly and gradually you will reach it."[Calli]

Calli had put her trust in me, I wouldn't want to disappoint her. I cast aside the issue regarding the map entirely and began focusing on the training.

3 months passed in this way, Calli kept hammering in new combat tactics and training while I practice the skill of retrieving objects. I made progress on my combat skills but not any on my object retrieving ability. I couldn't focus on the training and the matter regarding the map Pekora gave snowballed to the point I feel suffocating when thinking of the map. With no one else to turn to, I went to look for help from Fubuki.
