Chapter 21: Depart to Candy Kingdom

I woke up, washed myself up, and prepared to gather in Miko's Demon King Castle in the early morning. I went and checked Calli's room if she's up. Her room was clean and empty, and it looked like she left without me. I left the Inn and felt nostalgia from standing at the place Calli called me out for being late. After a while, I walked towards the Demon King's Castle. The guards let me in with A-chan guiding me into the castle. I pushed 2 sets of heavy wooden doors and finally entered the throne room. The Throne room had a high ceiling and no windows in sight. The red carpet extends from outside the building all the way to the throne. The floor is transparent with flowing magma that lights up the room in a shade of yellow-red tone. On the throne, Miko sits on it in full armor and she's wearing her dark dragon head helmet that she claimed to be slain by her. And Calli is just slumping beside the throne.

"Come forth, brave hero! And defeat me if you can! bwahahahahaha!"[Miko]

She's roleplaying as always, I decided to follow up in her little act.

"Enough talk! Let's end this here and now Demon Lord!" [Edge]

"You're late again dipshit."[Calli]

Calli has been treating me rough ever since then and I am not sure what else i could do other than apologizing to her again. I need to think up something better to please her.

"What do you think of my castle Edge? Isn't it menacing and cool?" [Miko]

"Yes it definitely is Mikochi" [Edge]

"Since we're all ready let's use the portal." [Miko]

"A what?" [Edge]

We were taken to the very basement of the castle and we are facing a heavy bunker door. Inside it lies a portal that is emitting an ominous purple light.

"Give me a second to set the coordinates" [Miko]

Miko left us and we face an awkward silence between us. Suddenly I thought of what she said

to me yesterday. So I began rummaging my luggage to search for the item.

"Calli, catch."[Edge]

I threw the small box Mio-sha gave it to me before we left. Calli seemed unamused but she proceeded to open the box. Inside it was the wedding ring she prepared for me. Calli looked confused and retorted.

"Is this some kind of mortal joke I'm too dead to understand?" [Calli]

"You told me that my marriage should go through you, so you should keep it so that you can help me choose my wife." [Edge]

Calli smirked and seemed pleased.

"You're goddamn right I should, who knows when you would trade this for a hand in marriage I can't agree to." [Calli]

She stored it into Her dimensional pocket chirpily and Miko told us the portal is ready. We stepped into a portal and we came out in an underground basement. Miko thanked the guards and we came out of the basement into a military camp.

"Took them a week to build this state of the art portal, You won't even feel sick after- BUUUUUUEHHH" [Miko]

Drool and vomit flooded out of the helmet, Miko excused herself to get changed and she was probably embarrassed by it so she took the chance to run away as well. We went out of the tent to find out that we are currently in a military base set up by the Demon lord's army.

"So should we stay here for now?" [Edge]

"Nah, I could take you to the Candy Kingdom, It's just northwest from here."[Calli]

"Then where are we at right now?" [Edge]

"Backlines near the edge of the forest." [Calli]

"How do you know all of that without needing a map," [Edge]

"I've been here a long time ago" [Calli]

I wonder how long ago it would be but I trust Calli's words. I wonder if I will get a chance to complete the second task maybe in the Candy Kingdom.

"Come to think of it, how old are you?" [Edge]

"That's something rude out of all the things you can ask a woman." [Calli]

"No, I'm just wondering when's your birthday." [Calli]

"I never celebrate it. But if you wish to know it's the first of April."[Calli]

"Wait isn't that today!?" [Edge]

"Don't bother, it's just another day that had lost its meaning to me." [Calli]

"Then would it be fine if you could help me pick a gift?"[Edge]

Calli shot me a suspicious look, she knows I'm up to something just that I didn't know the timing could ever be so good.

"I don't have any money too so please?" [Calli]

Calli looks hesitant, but I only did as she asked.

"What do you want to buy?" [Calli]

"A bottle of wine" [Edge]

"I told you I don't need to celebrate birthdays."[Calli]

"It's not just for you, it's for all 3 of us. Besides I haven't drunk red wine before, I was saving it so that I could try it when you're around." [Edge]

Calli changed her attitude immediately and said

"Well then what are you waiting for, lets go now. We will be needing more than 1 bottle for a drinking party."[Calli]

With that, I think I resolved the mood between us just as planned.
