I turn over in bed when my ringtone cuts through the quiet of the morning. The sunlight is just beginning to spill through the tall windows of my bedroom.
I reach over to the nightstand and grab my phone.
The moment I see Annabelle’s name glowing on the screen, a smile spreads across my face.
“Morning, beautiful lady,” I answer, my voice still thick with sleep. “You’re up early.”
On the other end, she exhales softly.
“Had to put my mom’s mind at ease before she goes off crazy and has a heart attack.”
I chuckle, sitting up against the headboard.
“So how are they doing?”
“My mom and younger sister are fine. I’m yet to see my dad, brother, and older sister,” she says.
"Okay."
“What are your plans for today, baby?”
“You were my plans beautiful,” I tell her honestly.
"Baby," she says and I can hear the smile in her voice.
"Tell me," she says.
“I was hoping you, Steph and I spend the day together.”
"Sorry Sean."
"Don't apologise. I want to see you."
“I want to see you too,” she says quickly.
“Can you come over for lunch and meet my parents?”
I grin instantly.
“I get to meet the parents today?” I ask, excitement slipping easily into my voice.
“Please prepare to be interrogated.”
I laugh softly.
“Don’t worry. Don’t stress yourself out. I told you parents love me.”
“So full of yourself, Mr. Britto.”
“I’m a lovable guy, Miss Inniss.”
She laughs warmly, and the sound alone brightens my morning.
“Sure you are, Mr. Britto.”
“So is it your entire family,” I ask, “or just your parents I’m meeting?”
“Knowing my mother, she will call everyone over.”
I lean back, amused.
“Should I bring something… or just my charming personality?”
“You’re on top today, sir.”
“That’s because I get to see my beautiful lady.”
She sighs softly.
“Even when you’re not here, you’re making me blush.”
“One of my favorite things, beautiful lady.”
“Hm. Sweet talker.”
I chuckle again.
Suddenly there’s a loud scream on her end followed by shuffling and muffled voices.
I sit upright immediately.
“What’s happening, Annabelle?” I ask, concerned.
There’s whispering.
