Making reparations with Kaminari has to be the best thing I've done in recent memory. Waking up the next morning, I feel a thousand times lighter. Colours seem brighter, my steps are bouncier and this whole quarantine thing doesn't seem to be so bad.I get dressed for the day with a renewed sense of self. Today will be a good day, I can feel it.
After making my bed (Who am I? I never make my bed...) and pocketing my phone, I make my way out of the room, shutting the door behind me.
The distinctive click confirming the door has closed properly rings out into the corridor. Simultaneously I hear another door shut close by.
I peer down the hallway to identify the source of the noise and find Bakugo swiftly locking up the door to the mysterious, unidentified room. He turns the key and then whirls around, spotting me down the hall.
I mentally note that he's wearing a shirt this time—thank the gods.
"Hey." I blurt out as we make eye contact.
"Hey." he responds, his eyes widening slightly in surprise at my sudden materialization in the corridor.
We stand in silence for a moment, my curiosity as to what lies beyond the door set ablaze.
"What's up?" I ask, eyes darting to the inscrutable door, and then back to Bakugo.
"Nothing." he answers a little too quickly, shifting his stance uneasily. "What's up with you?" he adds after a pause.
What could he have been doing in there? Why was he acting so suspicious?
Still eyeing me warily, he attempts to discreetly pocket the key to the door.
I watch with a blank expression, warring with myself as to whether I should ask him about the room behind him.
"Nothing." I say, ultimately deciding not to choose violence this morning.
Bakugo's gaze narrow at my response. His crimson eyes hold my forest green ones in a deadlock, seeming to analyze my reply until he abruptly turns away, stomping down the hall and sealing himself away in his bedroom.
I exhale the breath I didn't realize I was holding.
What a weird guy.
I'm a little upset that I didn't even get a glimpse into the secret room before it was secured from my prying eyes, but I am not about to let that ruin the great day I am determined to have. I shake off the strange interaction and make my way down to the kitchen.
I idly scroll through my phone for a while, sat atop a stool at the island, catching up on the latest memes and responding to unopened text messages. Bakugo eventually meanders into the kitchen and starts making breakfast.
The pair of us coexist in comfortable silence, ignoring 'The Hallway Incident' like we ignore all our problems. If you don't acknowledge it, it doesn't exist... At least, that's what we pretend.
Bakugo flits around the kitchen working his chef magic and I scroll socials like it's my job, until a plate is shoved into my line of sight.
"Eggs Benedict." the blond informs me, before taking a seat on the stool directly beside me. I make note of his bold choice not to leave a buffer stool between us, but make no comment.
"Fancy. Thanks." I pull the plate in front of me and waste no time diving in.
We eat quietly, finishing our respective egg dishes quite quickly. I stand and promptly begin washing up the dirty morning dishes after clearing my plate.
