It was just before midnight when Bakugo kicked me out of his room. He said something about being "fucking tired" but in reality, I think he was just getting sick of losing to me in Tekken. After my unceremonious release from Bakugo's company, I wander down to the kitchen in search of some snackage.
I'm rifling through each cupboard, becoming increasingly more irate as I come up empty. The good snack situation is ridiculously low, after a full week of feeding Bakugo and I, supplies is majorly dwindling. We were gonna have to find out how we're supposed to acquire more food whilst quarantined because this selection has quickly become tragic.
I open the last cupboard door to reveal a sizeable amount of plastic cups, plates, cutlery and a few napkins but—no snacks.
I sigh to myself in distress, staring at the disappointing contents of the small storage receptacle. I brush a hand through my green curls, eyeing the red plastic cups brazenly when an idea strikes me. A devilish grin cracks my face open, and I can't help the shamelessly evil chuckle that overcomes me.
I yoink the stacks of cups from the cupboard and toss them onto the counter, a hollow plastic 'boink!' reverberating through the kitchen as they slap against the marble counter top. My disappointment has all but disappeared as excitement builds within me. I start the search for a water pitcher, ripping through the kitchen cupboards once more. I finally come up victorious, and raise the pitcher in the air as if I were Link in the Legend of Zelda and I'd just opened a chest to find a new item.
I begin filling the pitcher with water when my phone starts buzzing in my back pocket.
Who could possibly be calling me at midnight?
I turn off the water and answer without bothering to check the caller I.D.
"Hello?" I answer in a confused tone.
"You're alive!" a relieved Kaminari shouts into my ear, causing me to jerk the phone away from my face.
"Yes, fuck, you're so loud dude." I respond with a hint of irritation as I bring the phone closer to my ear again.
"Sorry man, you didn't respond for so long I thought you died or something." he says, genuine concern in his tone.
"You didn't think I was, oh, I don't know, sleeping?! It's midnight, Denk." I grumble into the line, impatient with my best friend because he was delaying my prank preparation.
"Your last text was four hours ago! You never take that long to respond. Of course I feared the worst." Kaminari admits, his tone dramatic and joking.
I roll my eyes, even though I know he can't see me. "Kami, I'm fine. Jesus. You're like my mom if she actually gave a shit." I snort, softening my tone as I realize he's just worried about me. What are best friends for?
"Hey, don't shit talk Miss Midoriya like that dude, she's a great lady and you know it." he warns, scolding me for my negativity.
"I know, I know," I say, pinching the bridge of my nose because he's absolutely right. She's a great woman, maybe just not the best mom... "Thanks for checking up on me dude, but I really gotta go, I have shit to do." I tell him.
"You have shit to do?" Kaminari pauses briefly, "At midnight?" he says skeptically, and I can picture the look of disbelief on his face as if he were right in front of me.
