Marinette felt her parent's hands guide her out of the ambulance as her panic attack subsided. On the way to the hospital, someone had alerted Tom and Sabine, and they arrived about 5 minutes after Marinette. Staff from the hospital sat with Marinette in the back of the ambulance, during her attack, and helped calm her down until her parents arrived.

Walking into the hospital, Marinette could barely see straight. Everything was a blur since she had watched Chat fall. She stumbled at the thought, gentle hands on her shoulders supporting her as she staggered forward, one small step in front of the other. Everything had happened so fast and she wasn't sure why she was even going into the hospital.

Chat was dead after all, right?

She was sat down in a chair next to her mother There was a wall of windows to her left, and she could see into the ambulance bays. It was quiet, the paramedics restocking their ambulances and laughing about a joke a man had made. Marinette wondered how they could be laughing and joking when people were at death's door just a few feet away. She sat in the poorly lit waiting room, a part of herself dead, waiting for news on the person who was , probaby, stashed away a few floors below her. The thought made Marinette shake. If she wasn't so exhausted, she would've broken down by now. However, courtesy of her panic attack, she had run out of tears to cry.

To her right, was the entrance to the waiting room, next to a long corridor. It felt ominous, and held a distressing atmosphere. Intrigued by where it could lead, Marinette stood from her chair and felt her mother's hand wrap around hers, warning her to not leave. Perhaps Marinette wanted a distraction from her thoughts, or maybe she had a glimmer of hope left- but she ignored her mother's warning and began walking towards the corridor.

Following close behind, Sabine grabbed her bag. She waved Tom down, and he rushed over and stood in front of Marinette. Startled by her father's stance, so different from his normally calm demeanor, , Marinette stumbled back. Her quick movements left her light headed, and if it wasn't for Sabine supporting, fallen.

"Marinette, you need to sit down." Tom said softly, stepping forward to grasp Marinette's shoulders.

As a father, this was a nightmare for him. Seeing Marinette so broken pained him. He would give absolutely anything for his little girl to smile, for her optimism to shine like a beacon once again. He could try all his tricks, his terrible dad jokes, comforting hugs, but he knew there was nothing he could do. Fathers were supposed to protect their little girls, but at this moment, Tom felt helpless. Marinette wasn't little anymore, and he couldn't shield her from the ugly truth called life.

She was a hero, and her love knew no bounds. She loved the city, she loved her family and she loved Adrien. Marinette was always doing her best, no matter the price it cost her, but the world saw fit to take away the one thing she loved, the one thing she chose to keep, no matter the cost.

Tom wanted to help, to be able to shoulder her burden, to relieve her of her worry. However, Tom couldn't do anything but comfort and look after her. So that's what he did.

"I-i'm fine." Marinette said, her voice cracking as she wiggled out of Tom's grasp and looked past him down corridor.

"Marinette please, you need to eat something." Sabine added as she moved to stand next to Tom, blocking Marinette's view once again.

"No I need to go, please." Marinette said, taking a shaky step forward..

Tom and Sabine gave each other the look. Marinette knew the look, it meant they were about to say something she wouldn't like. Deep down, Marinette knew her parents were right, she was weak and tired and drained. She couldn't cry, and her soulmate had just died in front of her.

But something about that room at the end of the hall haunted Marinette. Before she could run off, a voice pulled her from her thoughts.

"Oh my God! Ladybug, I- I mean Marinette? Is that really you? Can we get a picture?" A girl asked as she ran over. The fan's yell caught the attention of a few more hospital goers. In almost seconds, there was a crowd of people forming. Marinette took a deep breath, about to do something, when she heard someone ask:

"Why're you in a hospital? Is everything okay?"

Suddenly, the chatter of excited fans turned into a gaggle of whispers and concerned glances. Marinette wasn't in the mood to deal with fans, let alone tell them what happened. Memories of the night swarmed as she looked up to her father for help.

Stepping in front of Marinette, Tom spoke up.

"A little privacy please people." He asked politely. Luckily it wasn't press, but actual humans with a sense of compassion. The crowd quickly dispersed across the waiting room, only a few glances thrown their way.

Marinette wanted to scream that she wasn't okay, that she wasn't perfect and that she never had been. She wanted to scream how she had just fallen through the air, with the love of her life, who she watched die in an ambulance... but she stayed quiet- and fell back into the waiting room chair, forgetting about the ominous room lurking behind her parents.

Sabine sat down beside Marinette and reached out to hold her hand. This time Marinette didn't pull away, a fresh tear rolling down her cheek as she let out a weak sob. She quickly wiped it away as she remembered the eyes on her. She was sure, in that moment, all she wanted to do was fade away into nothingness.
"Oh Honey." Tom sighed, giving Marinette a smile. Except it wasn't warming or comforting like usual, seemed full of pain and hurt.

"You know, the doctors are doing everything that they can Marinette." Sabine said.

"What?" Marinette asked, cutting Sabine off. Did she hear that right?

"What do you mean?" Sabine asked, confusion growing on her face.

"He-he died, why're the- the doctors?" Marinette trailed off, consumed by her rambling thoughts as she tried to put everything together.

"What?" Tom asked

"He flatlined, I s-saw, you didn't know?"

"Didn't anyone tell you Marinette?" Sabine asked softly, a small smile growing on her lips.

"Tell me what?"

"They got his pulse back."

"He's alive?"
