Scared is a normal and natural emotion. Someone put it there to keep us safe. Yet as we mature, there will be times when we are the protector rather than the protected. Chat had discovered this when he became a hero, when he realized no one was protecting him anymore.

Chat Noir's next words defined what one he would be in this moment. If he said yes, he would be the protected. If he chose no, he would be the protector. Wasn't his father meant to protect him?

"Y-yes but-" Chat Noir began.

"So you admit he deserves a long sentence?" The lawyer urged.

"Well, no-" The hero tried to defend himself. The lawyer was twisting his words, using Gabriel's own son against him.

"No? Chat Noir, you initially said yes and now you're saying he doesn't deserve to be in prison?" The lawyer implied, holding her hands out in a questioning gesture.

Ladybug knew what the lawyer was doing. She felt a wave of anger flood through her- a protectiveness consuming her as Chat Noir continued to be hassled on the stand. A gasp escaped the mouths of shocked audience members...

"I- I said he should go to prison, but not for-" Chat Noir tried to correct the lawyer.

"Okay, here's our answer. No further questions, your Honor." The lawyer concluded, swiftly ending Chat Noir's reply.

"B-but I didn't finish." Chat Noir sighed to himself, admitting his defeat.

"Defendant?" The judge asked once again.

"No further questions, your Honor."

"In that case, I think I have heard enough for now. We will take a break while my team and I review the evidence. Sentencing will resume in 20 minutes." The judge concluded, before sanding and striding out of the courtroom.

At the distant flicker of your nature, I flinch.

I flicked pricks of emotion once swooned away,
Begin to close at the junction of my mind.

How voiceless I was to your torturing tones,
The noiseless fumbles of vowels and consonants that threatened to vanquish my being.

Today i stand breezily staring into your woeful eyes,
A pleading-ness of utmost sincerity begging my forgiveness.

It is the wish of the child that was once buried deep inside me.
And the wish of the voices that lure my hasiest desires,
That will shackle your words.

Forget protected or protector, how about defenseless?

"Ladybug! Chat Noir! An interview?" A reporter yelled as the pair of heroes made their way out of the courtroom.

Chat Noir looked at Ladybug, then back at the reporter. Usually, Chat Noir would take the lead for press interviews- his familiarity with the camera being a helpful tool for the heroes. But today, Chat Noir didn't feel up to it. He wondered if Ladybug would help him, tell the press to go away- but consumed with doubt about Ladybug's promise to be there for him, Chat Noir wasn't surprised when Ladybug replied:

"We'll be right there."

The hero grabbed Chat Noir's hand and swiftly guided him through the crowded corridor. Following the reporter out of the main entrance, Ladybug was met with flashing cameras and microphones held high. Taking their place in front of a podium, Chat Noir snatched his hand back- she had lied to him, Ladybug wasn't there for him at all- she was doing this as payback, Chat deduced.
