My Ten Commandments. (Song of Philia)

I was effectively an only child

until you came around.

Sure I had a sister,

but she was old enough to be a third parent.

I'd like to be a better sibling for you.

Guide you past the traps I fell in to.

So here is a list of rules,

read them carefully.

They will make you much happier than I was at your age.

1- To avoid loneliness, value more what you do have, and less what you don't. You aren't alone, you just can't see the people who love you quite yet.

2- Never feel pressured to do anything. By a person, or society. Go at your own pace.

3- when it does get to that, this is an important rule. If you go round to their house, and there isn't a book in sight. Maybe don't fuck them.

4- People don't care. Really. They aren't judging you. They are too busy worrying about themselves.

5- Develop a good work ethic.

6- Assume you are wrong. Humbleness is one of the greatest blessings.

7- Read vociferously. Especially poetry. I recommend Hafez, Baudelaire, and Koyczan.

8- Don't take the easy path. Living is difficult, its a fight. So, fight.

9- Furthermore. There is no life without suffering. You don't get to avoid choices or consequences. Pick a path young traveller, and be prepared for whatever follows.

10- Simply, don't be an asshole. The world is scary and everyone is suffering more than you can possibly imagine. Don't make it worse, and hope others will hold the same rule in regards to you.
