Aging Wine

The grapes on the vine were purple all around as some red splotches could be seen. They were perfect. It would be time to harvest them soon.

Akdeila cries as the soft breeze blows into the house and I walk away from the maturing grapes as I walk over to the cradle. When I look inside of it I smile at the small infant and I pick her up as I rock her back and forth. Her cries become soft until she is no longer crying and I watch as her eyes droop and then finally close. She was asleep.

I hold Akdeila close to me as I look out the window and the cherry blossoms outside of the window blow in as another soft breeze reaches into the small cottage. I close my eyes briefly as I open them, I put Akdeila back in her crib. I tuck her in as I could hear the soft murmurs of whispers. The whispers were once words before they turned into something horrible. The whispers became screams of agony and without much thought I close the window and lock it. I didn't need Adkeila being awoken once again.

Not when she didn't need to be.
