No one's POV
After Josie and Hope got dressed and were done getting ready, they were running through the empty hallways to get to the old mill. They lost track of time when they were together, so now they were an hour late. Hope was running after Josie who was still holding her hand. They almost tripped together, because running in heels wasn't such a smart idea. They were giggling every step of the way. Hope got lost in the sound of Josie's laugh. She could also hear her running out of breath. Hope had no trouble running, she was a wolf after all. But Josie was human, sort of, so she still got tired pretty fast.
''Josie, slow down. It's just a party. We're already too late anyways, it's fine if you want to take 5 minutes to catch your breath before we go outside.'' She stopped running, but didn't stop moving. They walked to the backdoor leading to the woods. Hope was suddenly in the lead. She laid her little hand on the doorknob, when she felt another hand strive over hers. Hope felt a little shiver run over her body, one she hadn't felt in a long time. She was surprised Josie laid her hand on top of hers.
''Look Hope, I know the situation isn't fair, but I'm sure the secret you're keeping isn't that bad. Why don't you just tell everyone what it is. That way you take all the power away from Landon and he has nothing to hold over you anymore. Or just tell my dad that he's blackmailing you, he'll suspend Landon or..." Before Josie could get another word in, Hope interrupted her. She was talking fast, because this topic annoyed her. There was nothing she could do and hearing Jo talk about it only made her feel worse.
"Josie just stop. There is no getting out this. I made a mistake and now I have to pay for it. But I just can't tell you what I did. You'll look at me differently if you knew the truth. And before you say 'no I wouldn't', I already know you will. You even believed the rumors that went through the school about me being obsessing and controlling with Lizzie, even though you were with us like 80% of the time. And don't say 'I didn't', because I saw your face the next day when you looked at me. It's burned in my memories.''
''Okay I understand, but are you gonna finish my sentences all night or are you actually gonna let me talk?'' The younger girl teased. She completely understood why Hope wouldn't want her to know the truth, but her curiosity sparked even bigger now. ''Just let me ask one more question and after that I'll never bring it up again. Promise.''
You could see the older girl considering it. She tilted her head a little bit to the side and bit the inside of her lip before answering. ''Fine, but I won't promise I'll answer.'' She was starting to get a little bit annoyed again. If she could do it all over again, she wouldn't have done what she did that night. She just couldn't bare the thought of losing Josie again because of it.
''Does this secret have something to with either Lizzie or me? I just need to know, because if it is, I could help you.'' Josie started to talk really fast now. She just wanted her to know she would do anything to help, in any way she could.
''I know you would try to help, but this is something I have to fix on my own. And the answer to your question, is...'' Hope had built up some suspense. She felt uncomfortable to answer. Who knew what Josie might think after it. Surely she could figure out some part of it. She let out a sight before finishing her sentence. ''...some part, yes. But not all of it.'' Josie gave her this very confused look and squinted her eyes a little. She was even more flustered than before she asked. Hope was walking toward a bench that stood in the hallway a few feet away. After a few seconds, Josie got the hint to sit down next to her so she could finish her sentence. Hope turned around to face Josie. She saw a worried look on her face. Josie tried to put the pieces together, but she couldn't find a connection. ''Let me explain, okey? So you remember the night I broke up with Lizzie right? Well I'm sure she told you what happened in details, but I'm not sure if she twisted somethings to her own liking, so you'll hear it from me now. We were simply just growing apart day by day and I don't know if she noticed, but I was starting to lose feelings for you sister. And it wasn't because I didn't love her anymore, because I did, I still do, just not in that way anymore. I was starting to...'' Hope was having trouble finishing her sentence. She looked away from Josie's gazing eyes quickly. It felt like they were staring into her soul. She never admitted this to anyone before. Tried not to give into it and resist, but she had no right not telling her some of the truth, seeing as Jo was as much a part of this as she was.
