The crowd was as it normal capacity. The adrenaline could be smelt in the air along with skepticism. A few guys barricaded the streets and waited for any signs of cops. Mia and worked our way through the crowds and positioned ourselves towards the start line.
The price of this race was 5 Grand to enter. High price to some but pretty average here. Dom has spent well over 10 grand in bets before he wasn't afraid of risks.
Especially in this city the competition never held up.
There was a decent line up tonight though but there was no doubt that Dom would win. Though he's an asshole at times, the man knew how to race and none of these chuckleheads stood a chance. They were all light weights compared to the experience Dominic had. We all waited anxiously for the clear signal.
As the race was about to begin an unexpected voice came through the crowd.
"Hey! Wait up."
Brian Spilner......where has this guy been hiding. Mia's eyes widened a bit as well when he came through the crowd and towards Dom. It had been almost a week since Dom served him his banishment. After the quarrel he had with Vince, blue eyes has been basically MIA. I was sure he left town after Dom's judgment.
"I don't have any cash but I do have the pink slip to my car."
Everyone went silent for a few moments before smiles and chuckling erupted.
Oh, he was going to regret this. Mia and I exchanged glances knowing very well how owned he'd be by the end of this. I crossed my arms over my chest as Brian pulled the pink slip out of his back pocket and presented it to Dom and the crowd.
"You can't jump into the ring with Ali, just because you think you can box." Jesse chuckled and beamed a cocky smile. Dom seemed pretty amused as well.
"He's dead." I whispered to Mia. Immediately Brian gave me a glance as if he heard what I said. I averted my gaze over to Dom who was standing patiently and appeared to be enjoying the show.
"He knows I can box." Brian gave a head nod towards Vince who was standing near Jesse and Letty. I had to look down and cover my mouth to hide the scoff that wanted to erupt. Mia pressed her lips together right to prevent herself from smiling to much. I highly doubt Brian saw us smiling but something caused him to look over at Mia and I again. He gazed over our side of the crowd; My eyes met with his piercing blue ones for a few moments. His smile grew a bit wider as he gave me a quick once over. My gaze shifted towards the ground and then to my nails.
I really hope Mia didn't notice. Hell, I pray Dom didn't notice or this guy would be loosing more than his car tonight.
"So check it out it's like this," Brian presented opening his arms up towards Dom. "If I loose winner takes my car clean and clear but if I win I take the cash and the respect."
"Respect." Dom repeated with a chuckle and shot a smirk towards Letty who immediately moved to stand beside him.
Brian proceeded to gesture towards his 95 Green Mitsubishi. Jesse popped the hood and gave Dom the scope of what's inside. Dom glanced at the engine for a second before nodding towards me.
I really didn't want to be in the middle of this but it was clear Dom was trying to display everything under his custody. I reluctantly maneuvered over to the other side of Dom. Mia followed close behind me.
"Nice way to spend 10 thousands dollars. He's got enough NOS in their to blow himself up."
The whole crowd laughed at Dom's observation. He wasn't wrong it was a crap load of NOS.
"So what do you say, am I worthy?"
Brian questioned holding his head high in confidence a proud smile spread across his lips. I looked at Dom unamused and gave a light shrug as he put an arm around Lettys waist.
"I don't know yet, we'll have too see about it but You're in."
Brian beamed a bright smile and paid up his share of the money to enter into the race. Dom turned towards his vehicle with his arm still around Letty. I glanced back at Mia before starting over to the opposite side of the street. Brians eyes, once again, shifted over to me d. His eyes hit mine as Mia and I maneuvered down the side of the strip and over where Jesse, Leon and Vince now stood. I couldn't deny what seemed to be him smile and wink when his eyes landed on mine. I pressed my lips together into a flat smile before shifting my gaze down to the street. Thankfully no one else was paying attention.
I could feel Vince hovering over Mia and I as we waited for them to start up. He attempted to put a hand on my shoulder but I jerked away from his touch and moved to stand on the other side of Letty who joined us after giving Dom a kiss for luck. He didn't need it obviously it was just their tradition. He furrowed his brow at me but a quick glare from Letty put him in check. The call was finally given. No cops were in sight and the race was on.
________________________________
It didn't take long for Dom to win. I glanced over my black nails a bit as he sped over the finish for what was probably his 700th victory. Give or take a few times Letty or I smoked him.
He got out of the car with a confident expression as gazed over the cheering crowd. Letty gave him a victory kiss as Mia and I walked up behind her. Mia hugged him and gave him a kiss on the cheek before stepping aside and joining the crowd. I lightly smiled at him as his eyes met mine. He reached out for my hand and I reluctantly let him take hold of it. His eyes read, "I'm sorry." as he leaned into kiss my cheek. He hovered for a slight second and whispered, "Where something looser next time." -My mouth went slightly agape and he smiled immediately. I shifted my gaze to ground before looking back up at him sternly. Everyone in the group was very expressive. Dom and I especially could communicate with just expressions since we read each other so well. He gave a half grin and placed a hand on my cheek, pulling my face closer to his and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"You know you like it." I muttered wittingly causing him to smirk a little. Then Brian pulled up. Dom slowly maneuvered in front me as Brian emerged from his vehicle.
"Man I almost had you!" His smile was radiating. What did some of that NOS leak out? He was awfully perky for a guy who just lost his ride.
Dom raised a brow as the crowd erupted into a series of scoffs and curses.
"You almost had me?" Dom verified looking between him and the crowd. Brian nodded in response.
"You never had me. You never had your car!"
The crowd laughed ooooed at Doms proclamation. Street Wise and by street rules he wasn't lying. Mia bit her bottom lip at the crowds reaction. I shook my head slowly as Brians smile fell. Dom could never just leave things be. Anytime somebody bad a hotheaded comment he had to school'em. Show them up and play Alpha dog.
"Granny-shiftin. Not double clutching like you should. Man you're lucky the hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake."
Dom gestured towards Jessie before looking at the car again, "Now me and the mad scientist got to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried."
I looked to the reaction of the crowd and made sure the upper streets were still quiet. Some nods came through the crowd as Dom spoke and When I looked back towards Dom and Brian I could feel Brians gaze moving past Dom and towards me. I pretended not to notice him glancing my direction but I think Dom picked up on it. Dom, standing sideways, glanced from the car towards Brian and then back at the crowd; where I was standing. Dom took two steps closer towards and in front of Brian, blocking our view of each other; which I honestly was grateful for.
"Ask any racer. Any real racer. Don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning is Winning."
You could feel the tension in the air and the judgement surfacing through the crowd. Pro-racers real hated newbies. However, all the tension was broken when a distorted voice came over Leons radio.
"We got Cops!!" Leon called at and everyone began to scatter like roaches. Sirens were picking up in the distance. A sound I was especially all too familiar with .Shit was about to go down. Blue and white lights began to flash in the distance and Dom quickly whipped around to me,
"Go!" He shouted before glancing to make sure Letty and Mia were taking off. Letty was going towards her car but Mia was rushing over to me.
"Not until you leave first." I demanded.
His face became tight at my rejection and I crossed my arms in defense.
"Get your ass out of here Charlie! Now!" He grunted while gripping ahold of my forearm and shoving me in the direction of my car.
"I know what to do jackass!" I snapped back as Mia ran up to me and intertwined her fingers in mine and drug me off.
"Mia, CJ!" Leon called from beside my car. "Let's go! Let's go!"
________________________________
I broke out into a sprint after I felt Mia jerk on my arm. I didn't want to leave Dom there no matter how frustrated he made me. He couldn't go back to prison again. We couldn't loose him again like that. Mia raced ahead of me and got into her car. Letty and the rest of the gang were already driving away. I watched for a minute as Dom and Brian both raced away in opposite directions. The sirens screeched louder as three cops cars spun around the corner.
"Oh shit!" I jumped inside and floored the gas speeding down the road and cutting down an alleyway I knew they wouldn't be able to fit through. . I circled back around the streets twice and there was still no sign of it. I could feel myself beginning to panic. "Shit!" I cursed and beat my fist against the steering wheel. The sirens were still going.
"I swear to God Dominic you better be home already."
Maneuvering smartly and swiftly, I lost them fast and pulled up to the house where everyone else seemed to already be waiting. Only thing was I didn't see Doms ride. "Fuck."

"Thank God!"
Mia called out as I came storming through the door. She tossed her arms around my neck. I gave her a quick hug as I glanced around the living room of random people. No Dominic.
"Where's Dom?" I asked looking between Vince and Letty. Vince only looked down at the floor.
"He'll be here soon CJ. Don't worry." I gave her a knowing look.
"Come on let's wait upstairs okay?"
"Bullcrap, wait upstairs we should be out there looking for him!"
"Enough of the hero complex Charlie." Vince suddenly decided to speak up, "He's Dom he'll get out."
"And what if he doesn't!" I shouted while storming over to stand directly in front of Vince who stood a good 7 or 8 inches taller than me.
"You really want to go face two dozen cops!"
"Better than being pussy! Running off with my tail between my legs."
"You better watch your mouth or-"
"Or what?! Your going to put me in my place. Id like to see you even try to lay your hands on me!"
"I don't understand why you always have to be a bitch when Doms involved."
"A bitch your just upset because I'm not your bitch!"
The house got suddenly quiet and I could feel a dozen eyes of me now.
"Believe me Vince you haven't fucking seen anything yet. You wanna know how of a bitch I can be! I will gladly show you!"
Mia suddenly ran up and pulled my arm, firmly, a few times before leading me up to her room where we sat and waited.
"I'll kill him! Just let me fucking kill him!"
"You need to sit and calm your ass down."
"Don't start shit with me Mia!" I snapped quickly before plopping down onto my bed.
"I'm not starting shit with you Charlie but you can't be go on this murder tangent every time something wrong happens. This isn't Vinces fault."
"I'm a loyalist okay it's what I do. I went back! When I was out there. Twice I circled the block."
Her mouth dropped in disbelief, "You know the rules are to immediately go to the safe house."
"Unless there is a man left behind."
"Which is something you added."
"So your telling me if it was me missing you wouldn't be circling the streets. That even asshole Vince would come searching if it was Me or You that went awol."
"We do the best we can Charlie."
"Yeah well it's not enough."
15 minutes went by and there was still no sign of Dominic. I was having enough of this crap. He would have been here by now. Everyone knew that. I wasn't going to wait any longer. I couldn't.
"I'm going back." I stated firmly as I got up and started down the stairs before Mia had a chance to object. I heard her steps follow behind me and I also heard the sound of the front door opening and familiar voices rising from the entry way.
"Yo! Dom, we were just about to go looking for you man." Leon lied through his teeth as a nervous smile emerged on his face. I glared at him harshly before continuing to descend the stairs.
Dom stormed over to Leon and knocked the beer out of his hand causing it spill all over himself and some chic he had with him.
"Where were you?!" Dom addressed Vince who reluctantly looked up at him.
"There were mass cops there." Vince tried defending himself, "Shit was orchestrated. They came from all directions."
All directions my ass, I thought to myself and rolled my eyes. Most of them had cleared up by the time I circled back. "Liar." Was all I could spit out. Vince glared at me darkly
"Are you alright?" Letty asked soothingly as she stood up from her seated position on floor and placed her hands on Doms chest.
"Am I all right?!" He repeated the question as he took Vince's unopened beer bottle off the coffee table.
"It was just a question." She placed her hands on her hips and while giving him a stern look.
"Yo Dom. Why'd you bring the buster here?" Vince nodded towards Brian who suddenly stood in the small entry way
"Cause the buster kept me out of handcuffs!" He shouted at Vince aggressively getting in his face. "He didn't just run back to the fort. The buster brought me back!"
Vince went silent immediately. Mia tapped me on the shoulder and gestured that she was going back upstairs. I gave her a light nod as Dom came back over to the stairwell.
"You can have any brew you want as long as it's Corona." Dom stated to Brian as he offered him Vince's beer. Vince brow furrowed as Brian wiped off the lid with his shirt and took a sip.
"Are you disappointed to see me too?" Dom sarcastically asked while taking a sip on his beer.
"Actually," Letty intercepted the comment before I could reply. "She was ready to call in the calvary and go looking for you but we told her to stay and give you a chance."
I gave her a grateful look as I descended the stairs toward Dom eyeing him up and down sternly, "Glad to see someone is on my side." He smiled lightly and put an arm on my shoulder.
"Always and you better not forget it." I said in a warning tone. I didn't deserve any disrespect. Dom gave a humorous smile before gesturing towards Brian.
"Have you met Spilner?" He asked me with his arm lingering on my shoulders.
"Not officially but Mia and I have seen him around." I stated casually while giving Brian a quick once over.
"Brian this is Charlie and I'm sure you've seen Mia around.
"Hey." He gave a nod towards me and I returned it.
"You guys got a bathroom?" He asked randomly.
"Upstairs on the left." Dom gestured up the staircase. He nodded before going upstairs.
"Been awhile since you took in a stray." I smirked at Dom knowingly after Brian was upstairs and out of sight. I could tell he earned Dom respect otherwise he wouldn't be in here.
"Yeah well he saved my hide. Even after I took his car."
"It might be nice having another driver on the runs be good business." "Yeah." Dom agreed glancing up the stairwell before directing his attention back to me,
"But don't think I didn't notice how he was looking at you at the track."
I immediately scrunched my face in confusion and denial.
"He looks at me like any regular guy."
"Bullshit." Dom said as he took a swig of his Corona, "It's different." He pointed a finger at me, "Why I told you to dress in something looser."
I gave a quick eye roll. "He doesn't look at me any different than Vince does." I witted back while crossing my arms over my chest. "So if you want to be pissed about somebody harassing me maybe you should be pissed at him."
Doms rebuttal was cut off by Leon and Vince as they came over and began to talk trash.
"You got no call bringing him in here." Vince began interrogating Dom.
"Oh shove it up your ass Vince." I rolled my eyes at him as he glared at me.
What suddenly has you thinking you have the right to start calling the shots."
Dom smirked slightly before taking another drink.
"Stay out of it Charlie." He snapped back at me quickly before continuing on, "You don't know that fool for shit!"
"Hey, he's right dog." Leon agreed.
"Vince there was a time I didn't know you."
"That was in the third grade man."
"Oh give it a rest Vince. Your just pissed at the fact that someone came in and did your damn job!" He glared at me but I didn't care. "If you don't want to be replaced then maybe you shouldn't have been here sitting on your ass."
That caused to snap. He immediately got in my face and started yelling at me, "I told you to keep your damn mouth shut you little-!"
"Little what! Funny how when the boss shows up I'm no longer a bitch."
"You talk a lot of shit for someone that wasn't even born into this crew." He sneered at me intensely and I had to admit that comment hurt a little. I didn't have time to form a rebuttal before Dom intervened.
"Hey!" He maneuvered himself in between the two of us. "I dont care what shit she says to you show some respect. You don't have any rights to say or think shit about her or anyone else in this house."
Vince fell silent but his gaze was still cold and icy.
"Ah now look who put in their place." I scoffed as Vince continued to glare at me. Purposefully tossing hair over my shoulder, I decided to be a further pain in the ass and unlace my top a little so it was more revealing. I saw Vince's eyes graze over me lustily, as I knew they would, my goal though was to get Dominic to notice the same thing and prove a point that I've trying to make.
"Don't hate what you can't have Vincent." I patronized him slowly as his eyes continued to dance over my body. Dom was finally starting to take a notice too.
"Cause isn't that whats really bothers you?" I leaned back against the stairs a bit seductively as I flicked a section of my hair over my shoulder. Vincents face was red hot with anger and embarrassment. Dom, I could tell, was hiding an impressed smile when he drug his fingers around his mouth.
"Listen you little slut, " Vince began and stepped closer towards me raising his hand up but Dom immediately interjected with a warning glare
"Don't touch her." Dom came and stood partially in between Vince and I once again.
"Yeah you all need to take it down." Letty interjected as she stepped in front of Dom.
"All she talks is shit." Vince spat out but everyone ignored him.
"Look man this isn't right." Leon tried to change the subject back to Brian after watching all the back and forth but Letty cut him off.
"You need to shut the f." She warned while raising her hand up.
"You look tired." She smiled towards Dom and took his hand in hers, "You should come upstairs and give me a massage."
"We have guests." Dom gestured to the room of people still dancing and drinking around us.
"I think you need to give me a massage." She said it again but in a firmer tone this time.
Letty gave me a smile and nod as she passed and went upstairs with Dom who wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
"Behave." Dom whispered in my ear as he passed by me before continuing up the stairs with Letty.
"No promises." I replied which made him chuckle and Letty grin proudly.
Just as Letty and Dom went up the stairs I Brian came down.
"Hey," Dom called to Brian as he made to the bottom of the stairs, "You know you owe me a ten-second car."
I smirked lightly as Brian nodded to him. Good luck on him finding something Dom would approve off.
________________________________
As soon as Letty and Dom made it upstairs the Alpha show began.
"You wipe the seat." Vince nodded towards Brian as Leon and Jesse both came forward skeptically.
"Oh my gosh would you cut the shit already!" I barged my way past Brian and shoved Vince backwards. He looked surprised for a moment but immediately started to glare when I walked back over to Brian.
"Come on, let's go get me a drink." I said as I pulled Brians arm over my shoulder.
"Come on we were just starting to get along." Leon called out as Brian and I made our way into the kitchen.
"So what do you want?"Brian asked a he approached the drink bin.
"Anything as long as it's cold." He grabbed a red bull from the bin and brought it to me.
"You know Dom likes you. Normally he doesn't like anybody."
"Yeah well he's a complicated guy."
"And what about you?" I nodded towards him as I popped open the tab and took a sip of the drink.
"I'm simpler." He smiled lightly.
"You're a shitty liar." I smirked back as I took another sip.
"I'll take that as compliment." He added as he leaned back against the counter and put his arm around my back casually.
"There's a problem." I began as his bright blue eyes aligned with my mismatched ones.
"You need to get some sleep and you definitely...definitely need a shower."
He gave a bright smile as I took another drink and set it on the counter.
"Come on." I nodded towards the door, I'll take you home."
