"Here take this. Tell me where they are headed?" Brian interrogated me as soon as we got in the car. He threw a map in my hands forcefully.
"The civics are stashed somewhere outside here." I pointed to a rural area on the map outside a nearly abandoned town. He glanced over at map for a few moments before hammering on the gas.
"That's all I know okay." I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned back in my seat.
"They wouldn't backtrack then. Highway 10 is too well patrolled. What does that leave us with?"
I huffed before gazing over the map rapidly wishing I could narrow the destination further, "All of this." I gestured towards the wide space of territory on the map.
Without hesitation Brian pulled out his phone to make a call, "Yeah, this is officer Brian O'Conor serial number 34762."
Wow. My eyes widened at the revelation. Bastard even had to lie about his name too.
"Charlie what's the cell number?"
I ignored his question and gazed out the window wishing everything over the past few months would just disappear.
"Charlie, please." I slowly turned my head looking back at him coldly.
"323-555-6439."
"Yeah, you got that? Thanks." He hung up the phone immediately, "Let me see that." I handed him the map and he gazed it over,
"Okay, I think we are about 40 miles away.
"What are you going to do?"
"Whatever needs to be done?"
"I don't like the sound of that."
"And I don't really care if you do." He quipped back. I wasn't expecting the snide comment. I blinked a few times in shock before giving him a warning looking.
"Listen to me Charlie, everything that happened between us it doesn't matter now." He exchanged glances towards the road to me as he spoke.
I shook my head back and forth, "Oh I'm well aware it didn't matter."
"You know what I mean."
"Do I?"
"Look just trust me okay. I know it's a lot to ask of you but I need you to trust me." His gaze held on me firmly just like it did the night we took our first drive.
"Just help him." I replied slowly, "I don't know what I'd do without him." ________________________________
After about 20 minutes of silent driving the team and rig came into view.
"Oh my gosh Letty!" My eyes widened as I saw Leon dragging Letty away from her flipped car. It was smashed from front to back and she was covered in blood and bruises. "She'll be fine."
Brian called out speeding up as much as we could. As we approached the rig where Dom was, I gasped immediately and gripped ahold of Brians shoulder.
"Vince!" I shouted pointing to his body dangling from the side of the semitruck. The driver began firing bullets out the window at him and Don. My heart rate increased as Vince was repeatedly tossed against the truck. His arm tangled in a thick wire.
"Take the wheel!" Brian suddenly yelled as he began to maneuver his way out the window.
"What are you doing?!" I asked baffled as he pulled his body up and out of the car and onto the roof.
"I'm going to get him!"
"Brian!" I shouted but he was already on the roof.
"Shit!" I mumbled to myself and jumped over to the drivers seat.
I stepped on the gas to get closer to the truck.
"Keep it steady."
"I know!"
"I'm going for it." My eyes widened as Brian flew off the hood of the car and onto the side of the truck.
"Hold on Vince." I heard him call out, "Get closer! He's having trouble holding on."
I edged the car closer to the truck and held it steady as best I could but the rig kept slamming into the car. The metal between both scraping ever so lightly against each other. I was going to need to pull out soon.
"Vince look at me!" Brian called out, "Put this arm around me alright! Don't let go!"
"Brian!" I screamed out to him when I saw the barrel of a shot gun sticking out the passenger side of the truck. "Look out!" I shouted as Brian looked up just in time for him and Vince to dodge the oncoming firing.
When the firing let up Brian finished getting Vince unhooked from the car. He quickly threw Vince from the truck and onto the hood of the car. I winched as Vince body thumped onto the hood. He groaned while gripping ahold of his bloody arm.
"Hold on Vince!" I cried out. More firing began coming from the truck. I screamed as bullets busted through the glass.
"Charlie!" Brian cried out to me as I began to swerve the vehicle. "I'm okay, Just jump!"
He repositioned himself as I moved the car back towards the rig. Brian jumped of the truck and landed on the hood of the car next to Vince who was gripping on with only one arm. Brian grabbed Vince's shirt and helped pull him up the car but soon Brian began to slip down. I gripped ahold of the wheel with one hand and held out the other for Brian to grip ahold of, our eyes meeting just for a moment.
"Hang on!" I shouted as I slowed down the car drifted off the road. Vince fell off the hood as soon as we stopped. Brian began examining his bloody arm as I ran over to Vince's side.
"Vince come on stay with me." I pleaded as he began to loose consciousness.
"He needs an ambulance." Brian looked at me intently as I held Vince's head in my lap.
Suddenly Doms car came barreling off the road. He braked hard almost flipping as he drifted along towards the side of us.
"He's dead if he doesn't get an ambulance." Brian nodded to Dom as he came charging over.
"Here." Brian addressed Dom as he took off his belt and formed a tourniquet around Vince's arm. "Hold this tight." He added and pulled out his cellphone.
"I got it." Dom affirmed as Brian made the call, "Yeah. This is officer Brian O'Connor. I'm off duty LAPD." Dom face grew hard as his gazed darted towards Brian. Shit really was about to hit the fan.
"Dom, please." I whispered while touching his arm but he didn't move.
"I need a life flight out right away. My twenty is highway 86 marker 147. I got a trauma victim about 24 years of age. Six foot. Maybe 200 pounds. He's got a deep laceration to his right arm and arterial bleeding. He's a shotgun wound to his left flank and going into shock. We need emergency evac rights away."
Doms chest began to heave as all of reality began to set in. Dom I mouthed him and he finally looked at me. Don't I mouthed again with pleading in my eyes. He gazed at me intently. I just kept pleading in my mind that he wouldn't throat punch Brian on the spot though he deserved it for all the lies and deceit. Though the bitter side of me knew he deserved I just wanted Dom to make it out of this alive and free. He couldn't go back to prison again.

Tears began to swell in my eyes when EVAC came. My mind racing with so many thoughts and emotions as I watched Vince being hauled away. I wrapped my arms around myself as Leon and Letty drove up in Leons car.
"Guys let's go!" Leon called out. Sirens wailed in the distance. The police were on to us. I turned around to look at the chopper once more.
"Charlie!" Dom called out to me I saw Brian staring at me from a distance. I knew I'd never feel anything the way I used to.
As two tears fell from my eyes, I turned around and walked away towards Dom. Dom threw his arm around me,protectively, shooting one last look to Brian and the chopper before guiding me into his car.
"Go." He said while throwing the keys to me. The sirens wailed louder as 5-0 cars began to emerge in the distance.
"Dom No!" I pleaded to him with tears streaming down my cheeks.
"I cant run anymore Charlie."
"Dom." I whispered again. He kissed my forehead quickly before walking away towards Brian and the on coming vehicles.
"No! Dom! Please!"
"Get out of here Charlie!"
"Bastards!" I yelled to myself as I quickly followed Letty and Leon out of the scene.
"We're coming back Dom! I promise I'm coming back."
Brian stood off to the side in the distance watching us. I felt his gaze shift to me as I got in the backseat of Leons car. I slammed the door closed and looked away from him as we sped off into the desert.
