Chapter 19- 8 months in

I see her everyday and watch her belly grow. She is beautiful and Harley has taken good care of her. All of her art supplies and some of my stuff has been moved into new apartment and whatever couldn't be salvaged from the fire was thrown away.

"How much longer until the baby comes?" Damien asks sitting on one side of me.

"About another month unless it comes early" Dick answers for me his suit is slick from the slight drizzle we were caught in.

I watch her through the window as she puts away pots and pans. 2 months ago she was already too big for her to bend over. She had a small puppy rolling around on the floor. MY heart hurt having to see her from so far away.

I've left roses for her every month and had to hold myself back from going to her every time I saw her cry. every night I spent hours watching her and wishing I could hold her. I watched as Harley form came out of the dark alley rounding around to her apartment door, her two Hyenas following at her heels.

"As much as we love seeing Laivey we don't like Harls so We'll be on our way." Dick claps me on the back and Damien wraps his arms around my neck for a second before disappearing.

I sneak up to the window placing my hand against the glass. window listening to Laivey.

"Any news sugar?" Harleys voice pops up and Laiveys is muffled too far away for me to hear.

"- I mean just the roses and I Havn't seen him since the accident so...It hurts thinking I see him in a crowd and then it turns out to be someone else."

There is shuffle and a small growl at my feet. THe puppy looks up at me from the floor and cocks it's head to the side.

"Bird come here boy." Laivey picks up the puppy and takes it with her to the couch."

"Are you sure you don't want to find out what the baby is before it's born, I mean your huge there could be like four of them in there." Harley sits on the kitchen counter in normal street clothes drinking a Starbucks coffee.

"I'm positive, I want it to be a surprise, and I havn't picked out a name yet I'm still looking for some more (HINT HINT). I 'l probably decide when it's born so I know perfectly when I see it."

I close my eyes listening to the conversation, hearing her voice makes things easier and I dont think that it is safe for me to show up in her life again.

"Well honey I have to go and meet shnukums, give me a call if you need anything and if you start having your baby."

"Thanks you so much Harley I don't know what I would do without you."

"Sure honey there is just one last thing I want to give you before I head out. You may want to put some bilnds on your windows."

Before I can react the window is open and I'm pulled inside the force of Harleys pull slams me against the wall.

"Finally took you long enough, Shesh okay well I'm truly out." As Laivey and I stare at each other Harley sneaks out the door taking her hyenas with her.

"J-Jason?" Laivey looks at me her eyes wide as I take off the mask.

"Hey babe." I whisper unavle to breathe.

She reaches out and connects herself to my side. Tears stream freely down her face and her swollen stomach presses against me.

"I missed you- I -I couldn't understand why you left until later, I - don't leave me again." she hiccups and I dig my fingers into her hair pulling her face to meet mine. Our lips connect and all the time I spent building a wall to keep her safe falls away.

I pick her up and carry her to the couch. I breathe in her perfume and sit down with her on my lap. MY head is spinning and nothing matters but her in the moment. I'm about to pull her closer when a protesting thud comes against my side.

Laivey giggles as she moves her hair out of her face and places a hand on her stomach.

"I guess it's a little tight in there as it is."

I can't help but look at her, her cheeks are slightly rounder from the weight gain and her shoulders are stronger from carrying the child. Gently I pull her shirt off and see her in full beauty. tears prick my eyes as I place a hand on her bump.

A small kick responds to my touch and the tears come. "You are so beautiful." I whisper and kiss away her own tears. HEr skin is soft underneath my hands and she buries her head into my neck.

"I love you so much, so much." I say holding her against me. "I love you too." She stands up and pulls me into her room. It's neat in a messy art way. I pull off my clothes and hold her in my arms taking in eveything I can that I missed in the last half year.

She pulls my onto the bed and lays on my chest. I kiss her face again and again until she is breathing quietly. Her eyelids flutter and I run my hand down her face. Her stomach is warm under neath my fingertips and her skin smells like lotion.

I will allow myself this night with her but she still isn't safe.

I wake up early and pull my self away from her. Her long curls wind around the corners of her face. I kiss her lightly and slide the ring I had gotten those months ago onto her finger. The small diamond glittering in the sunlight.

I kiss her again before sliding on my clothes and leaving through the window.
