Jason took off his jacket leaving the torn shirt on and kicked off his shoes. I watched as he removed various weapons from his pockets and finally take off his gloves.

I had changed into my pajamas and sat in the chair by his desk.

He sat down on his bed and leaned against the wall. "Okay lets hear it, how did beautiful Laivey find the courage to come To Gotham?" I smiled at him and shook my head.

"I'm not here to complain but it's not the happiest story ever." I pulled my knees up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them.

"When I was about three my Dad adopted me and brought me home. My mom didn't like it. There were multiple times she tried to take me back and put me into the system again. My dad found out once and threatend to leave her. She swore on her life not to do it again."

I wiggled a little in my seat. "When I was ten my mom became pregnant with a little girl. She immediatly gave all her love, time , and affection to Evelyn. That was her name. I loved her like a real sister and when ever our mom wasn't looking she would come sit in my lap and we would whisper fairytales to one another."

I smiled at the sweet memories of her coming into my room at night telling stories."ONe night Mom came in and found her sleeping in my bed, she accused me of awful things and tried to have me kicked out. Of course it didn't go her way. Evelyn never came into my room again after that night though"

"When I turned sixteen Evelyn was six. I offered to drive her to her ballet classes, she was an amazing dancer and true talent, I loved watching her perform on the rare occasion of going out with the family. A drunk driver ran a red light and hit her side of the car."

Fresh tears burned down my cheeks. I placed my head in my arms. "Evelyn was in a coma for six weeks." A sob wrentched my shoulders forward. I felt Jason wrap his arms around me. He lifted me up and brought me to his bed.

For a minute he rubbed my back and the sobs stoppped but tears still fell down my face.

"She died in that hospital bed. My mom blamed me for it. Every second of everyday She was cursing me and hit me every time I tried to speak.

I looked down at the scars on my legs. "She beat me with a belt until I bled. Then she poured salt all over me one time." I winced remembering the pain.

"Why didn't your Dad do anything?" Jason held me tight against his chest. "When Evelyn died he was in such a mess. He worked himself every chance he could. Taking up coworkers shifts and staying late over the smallest things."

"To him I barly even existed until one time after walking home from school someone tried to kidnap me. The police got to us before he could act first."

"Jason I had been so scared, afraid he would be at work and if the police called home my mom would never tell him."

Jason pressed his lips to the top of my head, "You don't have to say anymore if you don't want to."

I shook my head. "No I want it all out now the entire truth." "When I got home my dad wrapped me tight in his arms and held me for about an hour saying he was sorry. He taught me how to handle a gun and defend myself."

"Laivey," he said, "If anyone ever tries to hurt you, I don't care who it is, hold the gun up and fire."

"I felt like I was his daughter again, but then at eighteen, he died of a heart attack. Again the blame fell on me for him having to work so hard to pay for me. She took to hurting me again and locking me in the hhouse so I could never leave. That's when I took to art, I painted everything in my room until the paints ran out."

"One day she came in and was angry at what I had done to it all. She reached for a belt and I reached for my gun. I fired once and it grazed her shoulder." I laid my head against Jason's chest.

"In court I was able to show them it was self defense and it had been a history of abuse from pictures I had taken. She was put in jail for 2 years. She will be released this year."

"I'm afraid she will find me and try to drag me back or get me killed. I'm afraid to ever see her fucking face again." I clenched my fists so hard they turned white.

Jason moved his hand over mine and carefully opened them. "I used what money I had on a plane ticket her and...well you know the rest."

I looked up into his green eyes and laughed moving the one white piece of hair from his black. "I'm fortunate enough to escape that stupid place though. I don't think I would still be alive if I let it go on longer."

Jason smiled down at me. "I'm glad you made it that long." He looked lazyly into my eyes and kissed my forhead. I promise I'll protect you."

I smiled I would expect you to I mean your the freakin Red hood. Oh and thanks for saving me back in the ally." Jason sighed and pulled the blanket up. "Yeah not to sound stalker but I usually followed you to make sure you were okay."

"As long as you don't go looking in my room." HE pressed a hand to his heart acting hurt. "I would never do such a thing." I looked out the window and saw tendrils of light peeking over the city.

"Suns coming up." I rested my hand on his chest next to my head. I closed my eyes and slowly I fell into sleep. "Don't worry anymore Laivey I'm here for you."
