Chapter 20-Aveline and Alender

The pains rocked my body forward and the wet cushions under me immediately let me know this was the real thing. I breathed quickly and counted the minutes between the contractions. 5 minutes and then the pain would roll around again.

I picked up my phone and dial Harley s number. "Hello You've reached Harls House of Horrors leave a message!" I groaned and redialed, again I got the same voice mail.

"Harley get your ass down here, it's happening." I rolled off the couch and struggled walking around tork, he looked up at me with big brown eyes and his furry little body shaking.

"Good boy." I pat his head and head into the kitchen. My hospital bag was already on the table and slip on shoes sat next to the chair. I looked around my living room where Harley outdid herself with buying me baby toys and boy/girl baby clothes.

As another contraction rolled through my body lasting a good minute I leaned over and felt the dizziness subside. My phone buzzed in my hand and a message popped up. "Two minutes hang in there." I sighed in relief and leaned against the wall.

Tork whined and sniffed around my feet. I have a sudden worry about leaving him home alone but the food dish is full and the water bowl was at a good level. I had already taught him t ogo on the balcony in emergencies so it was going to be okay.

I run my fingers through my hair and wince as it gets caught. I pull it out of my hair and stare down at my hand. A beautiful silver ring with the sweetest diamond set in the center. My breath catches in my throat and I have to remind myself to breathe.

I don't even notice Harley come through the door until she taps on my shoulder. "Honey the ring is pretty but we have to get you down to the hospital. I nod and she pulls me along grabbing my hospital bag. We are going through the door when another contraction racks my body and I fall to the ground.

"Honey are you okay?" I shake my head, I can't get up and my body feels so weak. I feel strong arms wrap around me and I nestle into the familiar chest.

"Come one baby girl lets get our kid." I look up at Jason's face and kiss his jaw lightly. "Okay great to see you Red now lets go." She leads the way to her red and black caddy.

"Just don't bleed on my seats and I might stay to help you later." She winks at me and opens the door for Jason to set me in the seat. he slides in next to me and wraps his arms around my shoulder.

"Jason I- I." I can't find he words to say now that he is sitting in front of me. "I love you." He says kissing me lightly on the lips. I let my eyes close and lean against him. The oains continue but they get faster the closer we get to the hospital.

"Harley slow down we don't want to get into a wreck." Jason says holding his hand against the back of the seat.

"Shut up Red before I make you see your child come into the world from your own hospital bed." I feel the small rumble of a chuckle as Harley whirls into the emergency drive.

"Pregnant lady coming through!" Harley shouts slamming the door shut and helping Jason pull me up." I lean against both of them my head spinning.

"Ma'am how far apart are your contractions? " A nurse runs up to me his clip board in hand while a woman pushes a wheel chair up. "Three minutes." I gasp out and the world tips away.

"Come on Mrs. Todd stay with us." I hear the sounds of beeping and look around the room. "Mrs. Todd are you doing okay?" I look over at the woman looking at me. Her badge says her name is Ms. Holly- Davis.

"What happened?" I ask. Jason moves next to me and takes my hand. "You passed out because of the pain, they gave you a epidural and you were out for a little. How do you feel."

I think about it for a minute but all I feel is a small pressure in my stomach. "Pretty much like nothing." I say, for the first time I look up and smile. He is dressed in blue scrubs and he is wearing a cute little face mask around his neck.

"You look cute." I say holding his hand in mine. "Where did Harley go?" He laughs kissing my knuckles. "She ran off to get her own scrubs. She wants to be here to help and I told her it would be okay. "

I nod and the docter comes in looking under the sheet. She smiles up at me and pats my knee. "OKay Mrs. Todd you will have to start pushing now."

I look up at Jason suddenly scared. "It's okay snoochums Harley is here it's okay!" She swings into the room and crosses to my other side. "Okay girl you got this."

I push and cry out and push until the docter yells in delight, There he is!" I lean back and smile, "Jason we have a son." I lean my head back and sigh listening to the newborn yell escape his lips. "There's another one!" Ms.Holly-Davis passes of our boy and goes back.

Jason squeezes my hand and shakes his head. "Twins?" Another scream rings out identical to the one before it. "It's a girl!."

I gasp and Harley giggles next to me. She holds a blue bundle and holds him out to me. "Here's your baby boy." "Alender Jason Todd. After his dad and grandaddy." I say I push back the cloth from his face and lay him in the crook of my neck. A second later JAson is handing me our baby girl. "Aveline Harls Todd, after his great grandmother and "aunt" I say pulling her close, "My grandmother? Jason looks at me tears in his eyes."

"Laivey their beautiful." He says stroking their small heads. "Their breathing is the same and their fingers both curl under the blanket. He kisses me on my head and smooths my hair out. "Please tell me I can help take care of these angels. Harley stands beside me, the room is quiet and the world feels peaceful.

"OKay Mrs. Todd we are going to pt you in a private room to help you nurse them okay?" One of the nurses is unhooking machines and I nod lightly. As they push me down the hall I pull Jason closer. "Mrs.Todd huh?" I ask smiling at his light blush.

"We'll make it official soon." He says his thumb running over my knuckles.
