Vinnie and I sat in the waiting room of LA Central Animal Hospital waiting for our Hera's name to be called. Hera sat calmly in her carrier which was in Vinnie's lap. Vinnie's leg bounced anxiously as he anticipated the doctor calling Hera.
"Vin," I said placing my hand on his bouncing leg, "it's just a checkup you don't need to be so worried."
"I know it's just a checkup but what if there's something wrong with her?" Vinnie gushed.
"The chances that there's something wrong with her are like 0. Just relax ok." I said.
"ok." vinnie said, worry still heavy in his tone. I could practically see the gears turning in his head as he started overthinking. suddenly the door to the exam rooms swung open and a guy who looked like he was 15 or 16 emerged. he scanned his clipboard before calling out, "Hera."
"oh hell no." vinnie whispered to himself. i looked at him and saw he staring at the doctor who had called us with a look i didn't completely understand on his face.
i stood up, turning to vinnie and saw he was still sitting in his chair.
"vinnie get up they called hera."
"i'm not letting that kid touch my cat." he said stubbornly.
"vinnie i swear if you don't get up right now i won't fuck you for a month." i threatened.
"fine. i'll go." he grumbled as he begrudgingly got out of his seat.
"i'm monty." the doctor introduced himself.
"i'm y/n and this is vinnie." i said smiling.
"how long have you been working here monty?" vinnie questioned. "you look a little young." i inwardly groaned as i realized vinnie was going to give monty a hard time because he didn't trust him.
"I've been working here officially for a little bit over a year now. and i am pretty young but i've been volunteering here since i was 11. so i can assure you i'm perfectly qualified to examine your pet." monty answered. vinnie nodded in approval of monty's answer and we followed him to an exam room.
*time skip to after all the checkup stuff*
"and that should be everything you guys!" monty said. "i have another patient to see but you guys can stay here to get hera ready to go and then stop by the front desk to make sure we have all the right billing info. it was great to meet the both of you!"
"it was great to meet you too!" vinnie said who had warmed up to monty after he realized how professional he was.
"have a good day monty!" i said as he left the room. "that wasn't so bad was it?"
"yea i was stressing for no reason." vinnie chuckled. he gently pat hera on the head.
"you were such a good girl today hera so when you get home you get a treat." vinnie said in a baby voice. hera looked at vinnie with big eyes before leaping off the the table and leaving the room.
"wait hera no! i just said you were being a good girl." vinnie said already getting worried that she would get lost as he chased after her. i laughed and grabbed the carrier before following them out the room.
