"No fucking way!"
Alana immediately pulled the phone away from her ear, as her best friends' screams were heard through the speakerphone. Telling her friends was probably not her brightest idea seeing that they were acting as if she had just gotten engaged.
It wasn't even a kiss.
Alana rolled her eyes, plopping down onto her couch as the girls continued to scream and giggle. They were currently in a 5-way call, and Alana couldn't even describe how chaotic it was with Marianne, Elle, Leanne, and Aurora all talking over one another all at once.
And usually, she was the one being chaotic.
Damn, how the tables have turned.
"Be honest, you guys are totally dating, aren't you?" Aurora excitedly asked, wanting to be in on everything that was going on, especially when it came to gossip and her friends' love lives. She had been spending her time mainly at home, where her kids— and yes, she had 4 kids, often ran wild while her husband followed her around like a lost puppy.
But who can blame her— they never seemed to leave her alone. It was like the family couldn't hold together without her. And to be honest, Alana simply found Aurora's situation hilarious, but at the same time, kind of cute.
"We're just friends," Alana said for the nth time, repeating it as if she was trying to convince herself. "Just friends."
"Just friends," Elle repeated in a teasing manner. "Yeah, like I haven't heard that one before."
"Jayce and I were just friends at one point," Marianne replied smartly. "Now, look at us now— all loved up and about to get married!"
"Jesus, this girl just loves rubbing it in our faces," muttered Leanne, feigning annoyance.
"There's no way you two are just friends— hold on, give me a second," emphasized Aurora before she moved the phone away from her mouth. "No, baby, you gotta eat dinner first before we can have a cookie, okay, Xander?"
Alana's heart melted when she heard Xander's loud sigh through the phone. "Okay, mama."
"What was I— oh, yeah, there's no way you two are just friends," Aurora continued, after the little interruption. "Didn't I just say that?"
The girls laughed, knowing how chaotic Aurora's family life was. Having three boys, and now a baby girl, was surely a lot to handle at once.
"I promise, we're just friends," Alana rolled her eyes. "I don't know what we're doing to make you think we're more than that."
The call went silent.
"Wh-wha— are you for reals?" Elle was so flabbergasted that she could hardly hide the astonishment in her voice. "Can someone smack this girl for me?"
"She's not serious, is she?" Asked Leanne, as if Alana wasn't in the same call as her.
"Hello, ladies, I'm still here," reminded Alana, sarcastically.
"You two almost kissed," repeated Marianne, for what seemed like the nth time.
"Yes, and now I'm starting to regret telling you guys."
"Come on— you gotta give us something to work with here," Elle tsked.
"Wha- there's nothing— what do you mean give you guys something to work with?" Alana looked down at her phone with a baffled expression.
"What she means, is that sometimes you just gotta shoot your shot. It's the 21st century, ladies are allowed to shoot their shot, girl," Leanne answered for Elle when the girl didn't reply immediately.
