I have played a lot of Games like these. MMOs, dungeon crawlers you name them, the monsters in this game looked really harmless and easy to crush, even with the computer graphics. But what would happen if one of this fantasy monsters came alive and the actual danger appears in the front of your eyes?
The assailant that made me fall on the floor just gave me the same feels. It was a real monster! A grotesque, mid sized spider like creature, with eight red eyes which reminded you of flowing blood. It was carefully inspecting the that was in front of him. A stare contest that screams death. Each one of us is waiting for the other to make the first move. It's steps are closer and slower. One by one, it's eight legs pulling closer and the figure getting higher.
It was the murderer that the frightened expression of these dead elves speak about. It hung them as a display for the explorers to see. I know it, my instincts tell me that if I make one wrong move, I am dead. It's the overwhelming fear and bloodlust in the air, which would drive most people insane. It's surroundings were like a tangled mess of webs, which make the surrounding ceiling and the room almost unrecognisable. Piles of bones and blood were scattered here and there. It's a predator that carefully chooses whom to eat and whom to hung like a decoration. A clear embodiment of death.
**Something like this.
One step, I crawl backwards. It takes another step, this one a bit faster, making me respond in an equal rythm, just like a predator which plays with its prey before ruthlessly killing them off . What could be its first move? Will it use it's jaw to kill me off? I noticed that it was slowly wrapping me in its silky strings. Another step and blinding flash of light appeared shone between the prey and the predator, I was pulled backwards again by a strong magic force and fell into Riku's arms.
"Just what are you doing, pipsqueak!? Do you want us to die right here! Stand backwards and watch for now"
He pulled me backwards, the spider was staggering, wiping it's eyes. It began to madly shoot it's webs everywhere. He grabbed my hand and pulled me over from one end to the other
"I never expected a greater archaenid spider here. See that tough scale like structures that stretch over its body, it reflects most direct magic attacks back to the caster, but the protection doesn't go 360 degrees. It's Freshly produced silk webs are highly flammable, it's an easy game if we hit the middle portion of its abdomen. We will have to act fast, the blinding spell will soon wear off. "
I used a basic fireball spell, but it quickly dodged that. The spider was not fixed on one spot and kept moving while shooting its webs.
"Human, didn't I tell you to just sit back and watch?"
"But I..."
"No buts... Just stay behind me for now"
The blinding spell was over and it was back into it's senses at that moment... Heck, we were too late. The scene of bloodlust in the air was thickening. The spider's piercing blood red eyes gave us a death glare. A huge magic circle manifested around the two of us, and several silk threads were floating in the air... Ready to tighten their grips and slice through the two of us
This was the end... End of my life before it could begin, end of everything that I had hoped for before, end of everything that I wanted to do and hoped to become... I was weak and I am still weak. Unable to protect myself as I rely on someone that I just met a few days ago for protection.
The silk threads were slowly wrapping around and fixating their grips, like a murderer who prepares it's tools before slicing it's prey into pieces.
A loud banging noise was heard... Followed by a monstrous scream.
The magic circle disappeared in that instant, as I was inside that tangly mess of thick spider threads. The spider's abdomen had been blown away by a strong magic spell. It looked liked it was dead. It's eyes were shut and the older webs in the room had started to evaporate into the air.
Riku had been keeping me really close, Behind his back all this time. He slowly moved forward for an inspection. He was really close to it. There was no breathing, no sign of life from that black mass. It's large legs were all collapsed into the floor. Riku was probably looking for materials or item drops that are recieved after slaying monsters in any dungeon. He surveyed the nearby area, which was again covered in disappearing webs. The atmosphere starting to slowly calm out. When the spider rose up from it's near dead state to devour Riku, who was close to him. It could no longer produce webs, but the threat still hadn't been eliminated. It brought it's truculent, bloody mouth came close towards him, and just like a snake who suddenly snaps at his prey, it increased its speed to gulp the unaware prey alive
"Hey! Behind.."
Before I could finish the sentence, an enormous beam of light had blasted away the head of the predator. The spider was finally dead. The remnants of its corpse starred disappearing into the air. I honestly feel really scared of him right now. What just happened here was the textbook definition of "tricking your enemy into believing that he has an advantage over you".
"Human, did you say something?"
"No..." It was probably too late to say that now. "I didn't say anything"
The spider's corpse had disappeared entirely. The room which had been completely filled with the mess of spider webs was slowly getting visible. Loud banging noises of stuff falling down from a height were being heard. It was probably those elf corpses.
It was finally over now or so I thought. Maybe it was the time to leave.
But boy I was wrong, no one escapes from the baby dungeon subtrap without being thrown into the main dungeon. A huge, dark hole appeared and swallowed us two and voilà! You get into the first floor, that quick. This little b3tch called Reality didn't even give us the time to collect those item drops************************************
Hello Minna San!
It's the author here again...So I am really sorry that I lagged out with the next update... Hontonii gommenasai 😭
So what I basically did now... Was to try to make Riku a bit more arrogant. I will be making a few more changes to his povs for that..
I had to do a bit more of a research on how to write action scenes. I am really sorry if it didn't come out all that well. Suggestions are always welcome in the comments.
Please tell me about the parts that I missed to explain, the typos or areas that make you feel satisfied...
Thank you so much for reading the chapter.
