When I think about school, all I could remember is 15 years of our life, someone is always trying to make us "perfect" or someone trying to earn money because of us, or someone that only cares about our grades. School is a small building where they appoint people to monitor us for 8-9 hrs.
Then coming to the rules. Schools has certain rules, which I respect because rules are meant to be followed (laws of a country, school rules, college rules, etc.,) but there are some rules that I do not understand.
These are some of the rules that I remember, and what I think about them.
*Students should come in full uniform*: except during our birthday and Christmas Day we are supposed to wear our uniform (understandable). By full uniform they mean, those 3-layer uniform with socks and shoes and those hairstyles and haircuts, additionally those ID cards hanging in our necks all throughout school. I mean..... idk, if the uniform was atleast looking good and presentable, it would have been nice... isn't the whole concept of uniform is to look presentable... where is the "presentable" part, I look like a not so well put together beggar in my school days because of that uniform.
*The hairstyle or hair cut* :
Girls with short hair, should wear a hairband. With slightly long hair, 2 ponytails with ribbon. With little more hair, 2 braids with ribbon. With long hair, 2 doubled up braids with ribbon. Only middle or side partition is allowed. No puff or dutch braid or French braid or any type of bangs allowed (Damn do they think we have time to do these kinds of hairstyles in the early morning. They think that if we do a single ponytail or any different hairstyles, we will be distracted from studying. What is the logic broooo!!!!!!)
Boys are supposed to have only police or military cut. They are supposed to cut their hair every 2 weeks (come on school give the money for their haircut.) No moustache or beard (understandable). The ultimate rule is here, in my school boys are supposed to oil their hair (Tamil culture has their own oiling culture, for those who think why oiling).
WTF are these rules..... when did people start to think that it is OK to dictate every aspect of a person and their body??? Isn't it "my body, my choice"??? and they are kids, growing up don't you think all they learn from this is "it is OK for others to dictate how other people are supposed to look like"????
*the speaking policy* : In some schools, but not at my school, the girls are not allowed to speak with boys. *head slap* What type of rule is this dude? *confused*.
*the lunch policy*: Students are supposed to bring their own lunch. But if not, there is a canteen where students could order food. But the lunch is supposed to be eaten in their respective classrooms. (Bro then why the hell do you have those large grounds for????. I used to hear stories from my grandma and my ma that they used to go to the playgrounds and sit in a circle and eat with their friends. *crying* I want that type of lunch breaks)
*The dress code*: For birthdays and Christmas Day, when colour dresses are allowed, these are the, dress code.
Girls: NO- jeans, leggings, t-shirt, low neck, low back, crop top, tube top, sleeveless, shorts, knee level, saree, half saree
YES- Chudithar with chudi pants, paavadai, lehenga (with no hip showing), full length gowns.
Boys: NO- Jeans, t-shirt, shorts, sleeveless.
YES- pants and shirts, kurtas. That is it, I guess.
(These rules are just sooooooooooo frustrating. DAMNNN!!!! What will I wear when all I wear is in the NO section.)
*The untold rules*: these are rules that are not written down in our school diaries.
When a teacher does not like a student, the teacher has the right to scold the student for no reason. (This is some BS. I was in this category of student. My 12th grade English teacher also my class teacher hated me for certain reasons (not because I did some "bad" things, comment if you wanna know the story "Why she hates me?"), So for whatever reason she scolded me for everything I did.
When a teacher sees a girl talking with a boy, teacher thinks that they are in love (love is kinda like forbidden thing in Tamil Nadu, only some parents "accept" their children and their love) and complains to the principal, the principal calls the parents and make it a big issue. (Dude can't they even be friends)
To conclude, Schools arejust a place to control the lives of the young generation by the oldgeneration. They think that they are doing the right thing by controlling us.School life for me was like a living hell, but my friends made it bearable.
