Well.... we don't say as institute or university in India. We commonly call it as college.
I used to watch various types of movies related to college since my childhood (because since 2000s- 2015 it was a trend for the movies to be related to college). There were many scenarios and different genres of "what a college experience is?". Mainly love scenarios *head slap*. Is college only main for finding a love interest???
These are what those made me believe "what a college experience would be?" - A joyous part of life, many field trips, many friends' trips, finding the 'love of the life' , bunking classes, being successful in life (even though bunking 90% of the classes), a carefree part of life, being irresponsible, Stress-free and many more (I know you can think what's in my mind) *thumbs up*.
But no, these are not only what a college is supposed to be or actually is. College is gonna be 4 to 6 years of our life. Which we need to use responsibly. They are the main stage that decides how our future life stages would be.
College should be a place where we collect experiences, knowledge and memories. Gain a talent in your existing life, make something useful out of whatever you learn.
First thing that should be considered is, you should learn whatever that interests you more, don't study something only for the sake of someone else told you to do so.
In India it was common that the parents and relatives interfere in the child's studies (now a days also it is common). During the 2000 - 2015ish the parents wanted their child to study engineer or doctor. Now the parents want their child to study either business or doctor (the doctor recommendation never goes away).
But I recommend you to study whatever interests you the most (also don't only focus on the studies but focus more towards what job you would like to take and choose the studies based on the job you would love). For me, I made my mind up that I am not gonna focus on a group that make you mug-up things, I wanted to focus more on the creative side (eg: an MUA, Fashion Designer, Architect, etc.,).
When I told my mom that I wanted to be an architect, the first thing she did was she called her brother for opinion, her brother told "some of my friends' studies architect and are now doing some job that is unrelated to architect", then my mom said "NO" (who the hell asked for their opinions). Since my parents said they would not pay for my college, if I studied architect, I started to search for other interests.
Then I came up with becoming an MUA, my mom immediately said "NO" only because she does not consider it as an "decent job". Come on!! All my mom has seen are a 1star rated parlours, has she ever seen what goes behind every movie, dramas even reality tv shows and many other platforms where MUA's play a role which is really underrated but is also important.
Then I decided of telling whatever I wanted to do to my father. I told my father I wanted to become a fashion designer, my father surprisingly told "OK", because my father is really understanding. Then my father spoke to my mom and they both agreed to it. So here, I am studying 1st year fashion design at a well-known college in India.
Each day I'm trying not to waste any time and learn everything possible I could from the professors and fellow students. Since college is online, it is kinda hard for me in the interaction part, I am really looking forward to in class experience, cause I know that I'm missing out a lot. (update 2024, am done with college!!! And oh my god!!!! College was fun, I enjoyed every moment of it. Some friends came and went, but tried not to end in bad terms with anyone... ngl, I learnt few things in college but a lot from my classmates!! But yeah, choose your college wisely)
I would finally like to say, choose what you are gonna study, enjoy whatever you are studying so that you can enjoy whatever job you get in the future, never take college as a phase and study just for you and not for someone else. And college is not like whatever you saw in the movies or drama.
