Y/n isn't like the other children in Gracefield Orphanage.
They can't eat with the others.
They can't play with the others.
They have to stay away from the others.
They are different.
Not "special", not "unique".
Just... different.

Music is something new and old at the same time.
Before now, music meant Mama's piano lessons and humming with Ray.
Now it meant just about anything.
Yesterday wasn't a good day, and everything was too loud and I couldn't focus so Mama got me this device that plays music on it. It has a cord that connects it to my ears and I can do all sorts of things.
Like turn it up really really loud while I read under my bed.
Which meant when someone dragged me by my ankle and pulled me out from under, I had no idea what was going on. Thank gods it was just Ray.
I pull out the plugs and swat at him.
"You scared me!"
Ray doesn't come every day, he has normal friends who he spends time with, and sometimes Timmy wants to stay with me.
Ray scoffs and hits me on my head with the book in his hand, making me whine.
"I knocked and called out to you plenty of times. What were you even doing?"
I get hit with a burst of energy and my hands begin flapping, making me laugh with joy.
Once I calm down a bit, I grab the device and show it to him.
Ray grabs it and looks it over.
"What is it?"
"It plays music! Look, I found one and it reminds me of you!"
I hand him one of the plugs and show him how to put it in before leading him under my bed.
After Mama discovered I like smaller spaces to just rest, we remodeled my room.
There were a few places when me and one other person would fit, with "fairy" lights and sometimes glow in the dark stars.
Once we're comfortable, with my head resting on his shoulder, I press play.
