Her heart hurt as she saw him not divert his eyes.

They were affixed, totally glued to her face as though he depended on the serenity of her face to keep living rather than on oxygen that he hardly drew in his lungs.

Manik was going through so many emotions and an inexplicable emotional turmoil that he fell at a loss of speech.

He had assumed each evening, ever since that tragedy happened, that whenever he would meet her.. He would talk all his feelings out. That he would let her know his inner battle and guilt as to why he avoided her, but gosh, all his planning back fired.

His Lips won't part and voice would not certainly escape the cave of his mouth.

No matter what, it was certain... Something has changed between them. Something unpredictably unusual. Something really has.

"I heard from my father that you helped him take care of the situation while I was... Unwell." She wanted to scream at him for not showing up before her.

But his straight face and quietness forced her to follow professionalism as him. If he didn't want to talk beyond the professional matter, neither does she.

"And that you took care of my oppressor..." She set her eyes on the desk avoiding his looks. It was only making her angry.

The face she loved was disappointing her.

"I can't thank you enough, mr
Malhotra. Although it could all have NEVER happened in the first place if (you understood my situation then and came to help me in time)... Never mind, I am glad you did what you did. And I am forever grateful to you. In order to thank you I have got a small token of gratitude. " She pulled out an envelope that she has been holding in her hand.

Manik, confused and amazed by her mocking words and taunting actions, quietly took the envelope. Oblivious of what it held, he smoothly tore open it from one end and pulled out a nicely three fold paper.

"Promotion letter!" His lashes flickered, mouth hung open on daze since it was a promotion.

He did nothing great she was rewarding him with it! Manik did not feel it was nice. She didn't express but he can see this was just her anger not gratitude.

She was.... Driving him away from her!

"Yes, Mr. Malhotra, I'm glad you did so much yet by doing nothing. If it wasn't for you than I would have never been able to come along with my father. I would have never been able to seek his love and attention. If you had not decided to do NOTHING then I would have never realized the true meaning of life and expectation. Which is why, I want to grant you a promotion in our Mumbai branch where you can easily work by being with your family. I have heard you missed them so much after all!" Her eyes laughing at him with redness, Nandini said while Manik shockingly clutched the promotion letter.

"But this is," he suddenly paused after looking into her eyes.

There were complains. Hurt. Aggression. Disappointment. All those emotions that describes a persons unexpectations.

It was not a promotion letter... But a letter that was meant to make him feel more and more vulnerable. Because she was not gifting him a nice position and comfort of his home town but drawing him away from her. It was a letter which planned his farewell from this country. From her life.

She was.... Punishing him for his negligence!

Manik gulped, he looked back at the letter and prepared to express his disagreement, "I can't accept this,"

"Why not Mr. Malhotra!" She immediately snapped.

It seemed as though she was forcing him to tell the truth why he ignored her. Why he didn't come to see her.

Although they were still standing professionals across each other, one thing was clear... Things have changed drastically. They were not just an employer and employee. They were more than that.

What?

It was yet to be named.

"I don't deserve this. I don't, " want to go away now.

Manik paused as he thought about the extended statement.

He can see the disappointment in her eyes. The redness spoke her wrath. Her smiles she used to give earlier always made him feel that she had a soft corner for him, but he refused to acknowledge it.

And now that she was showing what she should have always, he was skeptical about it. He hated to see that coldness in her eyes.

"You deserved lot more, Mr. Malhotra. Just that, I'm capable of rewarding you with this for now." She directly yet indirectly conveyed her feelings.

Isn't it? She was ready to give all of her to him. She was ready to hand over her life, happiness, future... Everything to him. But he forced her to give her this... A letter which meant nothing but his exit from her life.

"Ms. Maheshwari, I had my own reasons to-"

"Ah, I'm sorry Mr. Malhotra, I have a meeting scheduled after ten minutes. My apologies, but I'll have to leave." She interrupted.

"But I want to,"

"I am afraid I don't have time to extend our conversation, Mr. Malhotra. Maybe next time. If was good talking to you, have a good day." She straightaway stated, turned around, wore her black goggles and walked out of his cabin while talking to her PA.

As soon as she came out of the cabin, she stood by the wall next to the door of his cabin and heaved as tears filled her eyes, "I hate myself for loving a jerk like you. I hate you so much! It is better that you go away..
Far away from me. You don't deserve me. You never did."
