A man was weeping holding his legs. "You want to see your son?"
"Oh, yes yes, I do" He cried desperately.
Manik pulled out his phone and played a video clip. "There's your son, can you see him?"...
Days flew by in a jiffy. Two months passed like a leaf flying along with the winds from a particular end of the city to the middle. Manik had easily settled in.
His bond with all the employees grew strong. He was loved by all and taken as an inspiration. He never let any change of motivating his fellow subordinates to feel low in front of him. He was having indeed a good time as he was definite working as per the promises he had made during his interview.
CEO Nandini who was sitting in the canteen dropped the pen from her hand and focused on the chiming sound of his laughs coming from the outside of her closed cabin. The female employees were enjoying his company across his cabin.
Why not? He was a down to earth professional who followed pure professional during working hours and a friendly bond during breaks and recesses. He treated everyone with his charming smile except for CEO Nandini.
Even though the mess Ceo Nandini had created out of her foolish thinking had died long ago, his behaviour towards her remained cold and strict professional.
Maan was no normal guy! He was himself the son of a well known businessman, and when Manik realized what blunder he had done, he became way too shocked and anxious to face Maan. He had assumed him to be a rapist. He didn't do anything as such regardless.
Thankfully Maan and Manik settled it with a hug and some genuine apologies. Nandu could not know when and how it happened, she was happy. It was amazing to see his bond strengthening even with Maan. But nandu? Alas, he never remained the same with her.
Ever since that day, he stopped smiling at her, acknowledging her as a friend as he did to others as He began to maintain a safe distance from her.
"I wished to be one of his close friends... Uh, more than that. I wished to be the most important person of his life." she whispered to herself whilst staring at the screen of her laptop.
Her heart crumpled listening to his laughs and the remarks female employees passed on him. It did something to her heart that she could not stop walking across the room and open the door and call him, "Mr. Malhotra,"
All the eyeballs moved to her as she called him. There were five girls... All in short skirts and tight shirts. Basically the hot shot chicks who targeted the hot guys in the office. And since Manik had been a hot topic since his arrival, they were flying around him like honeybees around fragrant flowers.
"I am sorry if I'm disturbing you but would you mind following inside for a few minutes? There's something I want to discuss with you regarding the Jeevan Corporates." She firmly ask, pretending to act as emotionlessly normal as she could.
"Sure, Ma'am." The word 'ma'am' came out cold. She could see the disapproval in his eyes but she knew he could not refuse as it was the CEO who called him, not any random senior.
Anyways, he soon followed her inside the cabin and settled on the chair on the opposite side of the desk while she sat in her own.
"I went through the data our R&D department shared with me but I think there are some loopholes in the Research." She said pulling out a filed from the drawer of the desk.
"I see?" he spoke as little as he could and coldly took the file from her hands.
Manik flipped the pages one by one and after some time he said, "It looks perfectly fine to me."
"I don't think it is. I mean the Bankruptcy case is not mentioned." She mouthed.
"Why would it be mentioned when the company has been overtaken by the Sanjeevan Enterprises." he spoke as a matter of factly.
Last month their company got a good dealing offer from one of the best companies of India, Sanjeevan Enterprises. This could be the best deal through out the year but now Nandu was pointing out something that was baseless.
"Is it so?" She blankly said as she pretended to be totally unaware of her foolishness.
But honestly, she knew it beforehand. It was just an excuse she used to call him. For two months he didn't talk to her properly. His communication with her had been limited to his work and progress. And it hardly happened that they interacted as his area of work was not so important that he have to report to the CEO directly. He had top managers below CEO Nandini who Manik reported to.
But she could not control her heart today and ended up calling him for a discussion of some work that didn't fall under his area of concern.
"Yes, Ma'am. In fact, you shouldn't have bothered calling me here... I don't look after the R&D stuff. You forgot I'm just a mere departmental head!" he Said while getting up.
Nandu's heart skipped. She knew HR was not to be called but she wanted to talk to him. She wanted him to stay around her just for a little while, but looked like he was already eager to escape from he arena.
Henceforth, with a fallen face she sighed and got up. "You're right, I should contact Tyron for the same." She maintained a straight posture while walking to the other side of the desk, near him.
They stood face to face. Nandu had a hard time stand around him as his warmth was creating an havoc inside her. She suppressed her unusual feelings and forwarded her hand to take the file.
Manik straight away stretched it out for her to grab it. "Alright then, you may go back and enjoy your break, Mr. Malhotra. Thanks for coming in." she acknowledged his efforts while holding file from one end while he still held it from the other side.
He didn't say anything but their eyes met. He stared deep in her eyes making her feel uncomfortable. He was staring her so deeply that her fingers she had held the file with started, trembling.
*Ring ring*
Their eye contact broke due to the loud ringing of the landline. Nandu sought to grab it, and since she was wearing six inches high pencil heels, her balance stumbled on the marbled floor and she slipped. As a result of which, manik who was still holding the file, experienced a pull and followed her movement of falling as she fell on the floor with him on the top— and their lips collided!
