When Y/n woke up the next morning, her first thought was to check her phone. No answer.

At this point Dream had already been awake for hours. He had been too frustrated to sleep and he gave up on his twisting and turning in bed at some point, deciding to just stay awake.

He had deliberately ignored both Y/n and Sapnap, and he knew that they knew that. He saw that Y/n had sent him a voicemail the night before, but he had decided not to listen to it, knowing it would probably make him feel guilty, and that was the last thing he wanted right now. He already felt horrible as it was from seeing the two people he cared about the most act as they did.

He did realize that he might have been acting a bit too petty out of jealousy with the ignoring, but what good would it do him to give in now? If he picked up the phone and asked her what was going on, Y/n would probably admit to liking Sapnap, and Dream would only feel even worse than he already did. That's what he feared, anyway.

Picking up his phone, Dream ignored the countless unread messages and many missed calls from his friends and went straight to listening to Y/n's voicemail. He thought that he had been putting it off for long enough.

"Clay, what's going on? Why are you ignoring me? Pick up your phone or just answer my texts, please, you're worrying me. If I did something wrong just tell me what I did and I'll make it right, okay?"

He put away his phone after listening, his hands going up to run through his hair. Hearing her worry about him made him feel guilty for ignoring her. Even if he was mad at her, he still cared so much. More than she knew.

Before he knew it, Y/n's name lit up on the screen accompanied by the sound of the discord ring tone. He let it ring for a few seconds as he contemplated his options.

He took a deep breath, mumbling a low "Fuck it" to himself before picking up.

"Clay?" sounded the surprised voice of Y/n on the other line. She had been prepared to leave him another message, expecting him to decline her call as he did every other time. "Hi."

"Hey," he answered shortly.

The was a pause as Y/n tried to think of what to say. "Did you get my messages?"

"I did. But I didn't read them."

His tone of voice was deep and sounded almost indifferent. "Oh," she breathed, sounding disappointed.

"I listened to your voicemail," he told her, making sure she knew that he hadn't ignored her completely.

She let out a somewhat relieved sound. "You did? And?"

"And what?" he questioned a little too sharply for Y/n's taste.

"Well what do you have to say? What's going on, what did I do wrong?" Y/n was starting to get impatient with him. She wanted answers.

Dream kept quiet for the moment being, not knowing how to explain or whether he even felt like talking about it right now. He hadn't really thought about that when he picked up, he just wanted to hear her voice.
