Burnttail floated down from StarClan, thinking about RiverClan. A few months passed since he died, and he already got used to being in StarClan, although he missed being alive and deputy. It was Greenleaf now, and he wanted to check on RiverClan.

Burnttail looked around RiverClan's territory, remembering his life. He let out a sigh and padded towards the camp, remembering the way. As he walked, he left behind him starry paw prints.

Soon, he could hear the voices of his former Clanmates, and soon saw the camp. Burnttail carefully jumped over the river and looked through the reeds at his former camp, and he purred. Whitealder was making the patrols, Acaciastar was speaking with Briarpond, and Berryfeather's kits, who were four moons old now, were playing with eachother. Burnttail dipped his head proudly, then he turned around and jumped over the river again.

I better get back now. He thought, but before he could do anything he saw something in a bush in front of him. He blinked and tilted his head, and quickly rushed towards the bush. He peeked through it and let out a shocked yowl.

In front of him stood tall Snake. His former friend, who died many moons ago, looked young and strong again, although she didn't leave behind any starry paw prints and her fur didn't shine like stars. The tom padded out of the bush and stared at her, shocked.

Snake's ear twitched and looked at him, then froze. The two cats stared at eachother for a while, then Snake let out a sigh and turned, ready to leave.

''Wait, Snake! Don't go!'' Burnttail yowled and rushed towards her. The she-cat turned around and sighed. ''Hello.. Burnttail.''

Burnttail blinked and looked at his paws. ''Right, uh.. hi, Snake.''

The two cats stood in silence for a while, then Burnttail let out a sigh and broke the silence. ''Listen, I'm.. sorry for the argument, and I'm sorry for everything. I shouldn't have never went in ThunderClan's territory. I was just angry, and..''

''No, no, it's alright!'' Snake meowed, her eyes widening. ''I just didn't think about it at all when we were in ShadowClan. I didn't know exactly how you were feeling, but I understand. I was too rude to you in that argument, I'm so sorry..'' She let out a sigh and looked at her paws.

Burnttail dropped his gaze. ''It's alright, it's not your fault. After all, I made you leave ShadowClan, no matter what the other cats say.''

Suddenly, Snake burst out laughing. Burnttail raised his head, confused. ''What's so funny?''

''Oh, Burnttail, you didn't make me leave! You really didn't!'' Snake purred. ''A few days after our argument, I met a rogue on our territory. She looked friendly and we soon became friends. Her name was Amber, and she was a ginger tabby she-cat with blue eyes. I told her everything, and I just.. felt lonely in the camp, without you as my friend. And I didn't know what to say to you, either, so I just.. avoided you. I'm so sorry.''

''It's fine, don't worry.'' Burnttail whispered. ''But.. did Amber tell you to leave ShadowClan?''

''Kind of.'' Snake meowed. ''I know that I could've talked to Sootblossom or Ebonyheart about this, but they were mostly busy with Bluepatch, Breezesong and Cloudpath, and I was just.. a fox-heart, honestly.'' She sighed, but before Burnttail could say anything, she continued speaking. ''So I just left with Amber and went to the barn. I sometimes missed being in ShadowClan, honestly, and I regretted our argument as much as you did. But there was nothing we could've done.''

''Oh..'' Burnttail mumbled. ''But how did you find out that I was in RiverClan?''

''Well, I just decided to spy on a Gathering, as weird as that sounds.'' Snake chuckled. ''And I just saw you there, and I heard Frecklestar say that you're their newest warrior. So I decided to see if that was true and came to look at RiverClan's camp, and I saw you. I didn't know what to do, honestly, that's why I just left.''

''I see.'' Burnttail meowed. ''But why didn't you join RiverClan?''

''Well.. I didn't know exactly what to say to Frecklestar.'' Snake whispered. ''Or to you. And I didn't really want to leave Amber. She was a good friends, and we were actually the only cats living at the barn. She would've been pretty lonely, and she hated the idea of living in a Clan.''

''Alright, I understand now.'' Burnttail meowed, then tilted his head. ''But I didn't see you in StarClan, and everyone else said that you weren't here. And it's obvious now. But.. why? Why didn't you go to StarClan after you died?''

Snake frowned and looked at her paws. ''Well, my whole life I.. didn't actually believe in StarClan. It just looked like nursery tales to me, and since I died as a loner, I just.. went to this loner afterlife. Of course, I now know that StarClan exists, and there's nothing I can do. But it's fine!''

Burnttail sighed. ''But maybe you can join StarClan! Maybe the others will understand, and..''

But Snake shook her head. ''No, Burnttail. The afterlife is much more complicated than that. But it's fine, really! I'll just be waiting for Amber, she doesn't have any other friends. And.. I'm glad that we could apologize to eachother. I just wish we could've done it sooner.''

''Same, honestly.'' Burnttail sighed, and he couldn't help it but nuzzle his former friends. ''I missed you so much, Snake. I'm sorry for everything..''

Snake flinched in surprise, but smiled. ''I'm sorry too, Burnttail. But.. even if we're dead, I still want us to meet from time to time. We can't just forget about eachother, right? I don't want to do the same mistake.''

Burnttail backed off and nodded. ''Of course we can't! We're friends again, after all. I could sometimes leave StarClan and come to check on you. Just talk about our lives and what happened..''

Snake chuckled. ''Oh, Burnttail, I know everything that happened after I died. I've been watching over you. And over my family and Amber, of course. But you deserved to become deputy, really. And you were so brave to confront Spottedfur!''

Burnttail flinched, then smiled. ''Thanks, Snake. But did Spottedfur really kill you, or was I wrong?''

Snake sighed. ''She really killed me. Before she killed me though, she said that she wants all ShadowClan cats to suffer for what happened to her mother. She's crazy, if you ask me! Not all ShadowClan cats are bad. It was just one of them that killed her mother, and I think that cat is long exiled.''

Burnttail nodded. ''I agree, but I should go back to StarClan now. Will you be alright?''

Suddenly, Snake started laughing again. Burnttail twitched his ear, irritated. Snake then tried stopping, smiling. ''I'll be alright, Burnttail, really! I've been a ghost for a while now. Now come on, go back to StarClan. Don't worry. See you soon?''

Burnttail dipped his head to his friend, smiling. ''See you soon.''

Snake nodded and turned, padding away. Burnttail turned around and padded around RiverClan's territory for a while, before floating back towards StarClan.

I've done a lot of bad things in my life that I regret, but I've also done good things, too. I'm glad that Snake, Dogspot and Spiderfrost were my friends, they're really the greatest cats anyone could ask for! And, Snake.. everyone makes mistakes, she regrets the argument just as much as I do. I'm glad that I killed Spottedfur, she was an evil cat and now she's in the Dark Forest, where she belongs. I'll always miss being in RiverClan, but they have a new leader and a new deputy now. Acaciastar is a very good leader, and Whitealder is probably even better than me as a deputy! And now, with Spottedfur gone, and with the rogue group that was bothering us for quite a while also probably gone, RiverClan and all the other Clans are safe. I trust everyone to protect and be loyal to their Clans.
