The Big Five

Chapter 10

I ran over and grabbed Conner. He slowly got out of whatever he was going through and began running with us. Mason weakly raised his hand to shoot an explosive grapple at the wall in front of us. The wall exploded and we dashed through the wreckage. Mason took ahold of us and slowly floated us to the ground. We headed for the jungle, which would stretch across the entire length of our vision. We started running through the jungle, but not too far behind was Dominic. He growled in rage.

"Get back here!" Dominic yelled. He raised his hands in the sky and released dark matter above the trees. It slowly spread, turning the dark sky darker. After the dark matter ran its course, Dominic then shot lightning into the dark matter. It became electrified and set the trees on fire at the tops. Trees started falling, but we kept running. A tree fell and leaned up against a big rock. Each of us slid under the tree and kept running. After his fit of rage, Dominic stared at us. Behind him, a hoard of monsters passed by and started dashing after us. Dominic turned and headed opposite the hoard of monsters. Another big tree fell in front of us. We stopped momentarily and looked behind us. We saw the hoard of monsters gaining on us, we had no time to stop. We regained our momentum and I jumped over the flaming tree. Fire caught my sweater and singed it slightly, but I pat it out before it could spread. Emma grabbed Conner and Jeremy and teleported over the tree. Mason used his grappling hook to swing over, and Brook jumped over as well. We continued running as fast as we could through the crumbling forest. The storm raged above. I could see the rundown town straight ahead.

"Are you sure we should be leading an army of monsters right to them?" Emma asked.

"I suppose we'll find out." I replied quickly to save my breath for running. I made a dash up the hill to get to the town, the other five followed. Soldiers began to move around and position themselves as they saw us running up.

"Get the army!" I shouted, hoping that this town even had an army. A soldier nodded and ran into a building. It seemed as if he was rallying troops. I got to the top of the hill and helped the others up it. Behind them I could see the monsters flooding towards us. They began climbing the hill. I looked back, there weren't any troops coming to assist us yet.

"Hold them off!" I yelled. Emma, Mason, and Jeremy went to work. They shot endless amounts of projectiles, trying to hold back the mass horde of monsters. They targeted the monsters closest to us, they took daggers to the face and fell back down the hill. They were relentless and continued piling up the hill. Then I heard sounds of clanking metal and boots on the ground. I looked back to see a whole army of men with guns come running up to the frontline. There was one man in the very front.

"Get ready!" He yelled. The men aimed their guns at the monsters. Emma, Mason, and Jeremy paused as they heard the man yelling. They stopped their attack and jumped behind them.

"Fire!" He yelled once more. A mass of bullets began raining down on the monsters. The noise drowned out all other thoughts. I could finally relax for a second, taking in the sight. Dominic's castle still sat out behind the forest; a dark matter cloud swirled above. I felt like I could see him at the door, staring out at us.

Agatha came running out to us, "What happened?" she asked.

"Things didn't go as planned." I said to her.

"Is everyone ok?" Agatha asked.

"Well, everyone's kind of beat up, and Conner might be messed up a bit in the head." I replied. We turned to Conner. He was waddling around, looking a bit dazed.
