Kelsi POV
I sat on the plane trying to plan out my next music piece. Over my years of traveling, I have learned that it is best to do something productive on a plane. I had my notebook of empty sheet music open on the lap tray. I had one earbud in and was playing around with a virtual instrument app on my phone, on that thankfully, worked on airplane mode. With it, I could play pretty much any instrument from anywhere.
The song was working on now was called "Morning Fairies." It was Sarah's idea to come up with something that could play while she was playing with her toy fairies. It had a fun and whimsical sound, with lots of flutes and violins. It was coming along nicely, and I hoped it would be ready to show to the composer that I will be working with once I get to Sydney.
When I was offered this opportunity, I new I had to take it. It was a once in a lifetime chance to work with some of the greatest composers in the world. The only problem was that it was 2 weeks on the other side of the world.
I sighed and looked out the small plane window. This was the longest I would be away from my kids. I would miss them so much, but at least I could facetime.
"Excuse me, miss?" The man sitting next to me said, trying to get my attention for the flight attendant, who was taking my food and drink order. Oh, the perks of first class.
"Sorry," I apologized, "Can I please just get some water."
"Of course," The flight attendant smiled and moved on to the next row.
"You write music?" the main said as reached for something in his bag under his seat.
"Yeah, I do. Its been my dream since I was little," I don't know why I'm telling a total stranger this.
"Thats nice. Living your dream," he said. "Something not a lot of people actually do." I nodded, about to reply. "Are you by any chance doing that composer program?"
"I am actually," I said, confused. "How did you know about that?"
"I'm a reporter for the New York Times. I was sent to do an article about the lucky ten that were picked for this program."
"A reporter, huh. My sister in law would be trying to get her name in the news as many times as possible if she were here." He chuckled along with me.
"Most people hate reporters."
"I don't mind them," I sighed. "I'm Kelsi, by the way. Kelsi Evans."
"Nice to meet you, Kelsi. I'm Jonathan Gomez," He said as we shook hands. "I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of each other, because I will be interviewing everyone and sticking around the studio a lot."
"My kids will get a kick over reading that interview."
"You have kids? That must be hard leaving them to do this." I nodded. "I know how you feel, when my kids were younger they hated when I'd leave. Now they're teenagers."
We laughed together. The rest of the plane ride was nice. Jonathan and I talked the whole time about all sorts of things. When we landed, after the long wait for customs, I got to my hotel room and decided to FaceTime Ryan.
"Hey Kels!" His voice came through the phone before I saw his mouth move, there was a little lag. "Kids! It Mommy!" He called to them offscreen. I smiled when their cute faces popped up.
"Hey kiddos! How was Daddy's show?"
"It was good!" Sarah said, ever the talker. "There was a lot of singing, but Aunty Mary said we couldn't sing along." She pouted and I laughed at the cute name they had given their nanny.
"Oh. I'm sorry. That's terrible. You will have to sing another time." Sarah nodded and went to go play something.
"Mommy!" Aiden said, reaching at the screen. "Miss you."
"I miss you to Aiden. I will see you soon, okay? Don't grow up to fast!"
"Ok Mama," He smiled and wriggled out of Ryan's arms.
"So how was the show?" I asked as Sharpay popped her head into my view.
"It was great! Went off without a hitch," Ryan said. "Sharpay totally stole the spotlight."
"Of course I did!" Sharpay said and we all laughed.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there to see it," I said.
"Oh, Kels, you'll never guess who was at the show tonight." Ryan said with a grin.
"Who?"
"Gabriella Montez!" Ryan said, laughing at my disbelief.
"Really!? I haven't seen her since high school."
"I know! But she was in town and said she really enjoyed the show."
"That's great!" I said as I stifled a yawn. I tried to hide it, but of course Ryan noticed.
"Well, I'll let you get some sleep. You probably have some major jet lag. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
"Bye, hon." I said as I ended the call. Wow, Gabriella Montez, what a small world.
