Troy's POV

"I'm sorry Troy," my manager said. "You're a great player, but your contract has run out. We've decided not to renew it."

"What!" I sputtered, barely managing to process what was said. "You can't fire me!"

"Well, we are. I'm sorry Troy. We have enjoyed having you on our team. Please turn in your jersey by Friday."

I stood up and practically stormed out of the office. I fumed all the way back to my house, not even the soothing sound of the nearby ocean could calm me down. I just got fired from my job. My job playing basketball. I couldn't believe it. Basketball was my life, I couldn't just stop playing. What am I supposed to do now?

I stormed into the kitchen, passing the living room on the way through. I was greeted by a kiss from Maddy. She even paused her TV show to greet me.

"Honey, you seem angry," She asked. "What's wrong?" I was about to reply when she continued talking. "I was thinking of wedding plans and was wondering if we should invite your team. I mean, yes, I want all the people we can get, but at the same time they are a little bit of a rowdy bunch. And of course, we have to invite you manager and coaches."

"Maddy," I said, interrupted her planning. I ran a hand through my hair. "We are not inviting the managers and coaches. I got fired."

Maddy stopped talking and stared at me. "Please tell me you did not just say you got fired?" Her voice was full of venom.

"I did. They didn't renew my contract."

"But, but. You don't have a job. Who will provide the money? How will we get into all the high profile events?"

I stared at her. I got fired and all she cared about was parties? Money wouldn't be an issue for awhile, NBA players make a buttload of money. But seriously? Parties?

"All you care about is parties? Really Maddy?"

"Of course I care about parties! If I want to get in with the Kardashians I have to be invited to the parties they go to! But you know what? Since you suck at basketball and got yourself fired, you won't be able to get me there! This obviously isn't working. We're through!!"

"Fine! If all you care about is what people think of you, then you're not the one for me!" Maddie started walking out. "Give me the ring back!"

"No, I'll keep this. Sell it online so I can get some money from it." With that Maddy walked out of the house.

I just stood there. I couldn't believe what a terrible day I've had. First I get fired, then my fiance just walked out on me.

I guess it is for the best. I can see now that I never really loved Maddy. It would have been a miserable life if I discovered what her priorities were after we already got married.

I sighed and went to get the mail. Most of it was from fans, but one envelope caught my eye.

It was an invitation to a high school reunion. I pondered whether or not I should go. I haven't seen anyone from high school in years. Chad and the team were my best friends. What were they like now? And then there was Gabriella. Troy had just broken up with Maddy, he wasn't ready to face Gabriella again. Also, she could very well be married by now. She could have kids.

I don't want to face her again. But, I did just get laid off and I have nothing to do. I guess I will go.
