After that a little surprising reveal about who actually is sending me those flowers, I'm a bit rattled. Teddy likes me. Probably just a little crush, but still. I like him as a friend (okay, I know I said he was cute, but that doesn't mean I like him like that!). And now... well, I know Kelly likes him. I don't know her very well, but she seems pretty nice. Teddy deserves her. But Lolita thinks I'm trying to steal Teddy away from Kelly and am acting like some traitor or something. This is so confusing. Why do relationships have to be confusing? You would think someone like me would be able to live a "normal" life without having to deal with all this, but noooo. I'm stuck in some weird love triangle thing, and it's not even a triangle, it's like... a quadrilateral! Kind of. I don't want to be in this quadrilateral!
Okay. Enough venting over pointless things like romantic relationships and now off to the library to scourge the fantasy shelves once again for appropriate books that I can read!
I head to the library and scourge the bookshelves finding nothing. Oh well. I guess I'll see if there's anything in the family journals, you know, dig up some dirt over the strange things happening. Like about crazy-shop-owner-psyhco-lady and why there are only three types of flowers in each of the large estates' gardens.
I flip through some journals when I get there. A dark green, a musty-brown, and a maroon. They all belong to some guy named Marcus Beckenridge. A note at the beginning of the maroon journal said he died in 1999 and lived to be 70 years. I have no idea who he is. I sigh, putting back the journals in their proper place when I notice a thick piece of yellowed paper is sticking out of one of the journals that I must have not noticed when I checked it earlier. Actually, I never checked this green journal, so whatever. I take out the paper. It's an old newspaper article dating from 2007.
Why would this be in here? I wondered, This guy is dead already.
In the article, a large picture shows a couple standing in front of what looked like the village bakery. I scan the article. It looks like the couple was going on some important trip.
Travel of the Season Turned... Wrong.....?
By Whitney Brishire
October 6th, 1995
Once again, we had our newest citizens taking a trip to our beloved secrecies. Mark Carter (age 27) and Marabelle Carter (age 25), we're off on an adventure, hoping to change Mrs. Carter's unlucky fortune with a family heirloom of hers. However, they disappeared before they were able to make it back to present time. No one knows the real reason behind this. Most assume they may have gotten stuck in a TL because they couldn't finish their goal in time, others think they were sent into the TL. Whatever the reason may be, their only son (Theodore, age 1) is now left alone. Let us all hope that if possible, the Carters are found, and if not, that in the meanwhile Theodore may be cared for by close family and friends.
Until next time.
I feel myself getting dizzy after reading all this. One second. Need to process.
Okay, done. A couple - the Carter's - are traveling to... a secret place....? Well, okay. Maybe it's some lottery-ticket thing that they won. Secret Dream Vacation, you know? And then they disappeared and got stuck in a TL? What is a TL?
I shake my head. Oh well, probably the top-secret place they visited, I don't know. Then after they "disappeared", their only son, Theodore Carter was left behind. I bite my lip. I'm sure I've heard that name before, somewhere... but I can't remember where. I'll find out eventually I guess. Umm, and that's all the news article says. Interesting and confusing, just not really relevant. Either way, I decide to shove it into my pocket to look at it later. Maybe I can research up on these people.
Once in my bedroom and out of the library, I put the article inside a drawer in my desk for safe-keeping. I'll deal with it later, right now I just want to sleep. Which is exactly what I do, but as I drift off into a peaceful slumber, a thought naggles at the back of my head - you've heard the name Theodore Carter before, but where?
